Supernova Tours state on their website that they operate small-group day tours and that is definitely the case. On the day I travelled with them, there were just two other participants, so it was all very relaxed. I had enquired with them, before booking, whether the tour included a stop at the Swissair flight 111 memorial, as this was really important for me as a Swiss. I was told it would be no problem to add, as it is very close to Peggy's Cove and they confirmed it back to me as soon as I had booked the tour. On the day we travelled it was extremely foggy, the one thing no one could do anything about but Chuck, our guide and driver, still made it a great day for us. It was an emotional moment at the memorial, and the only other person there at the time of our visit, turned out to be one of the local residents who had been involved in the recovery efforts. It was good to meet someone who had spent months experiencing the devastation first-hand, it is something that is still very present in the memory of most Swiss people. Chuck is not only extremely knowledgeable on anything to do with the area, he is clearly a people-person and likes to talk to his guests and share his knowledge. Nothing was too much trouble to help us get the best pictures of our day out, be it in foggy Peggy's Cove, at the BernArt display, in Lunenburg when the weather finally cleared a little, at the Ovens National Park with specific warnings on where we should turn around to avoid areas with ticks, or on the way back when we quickly swung by Mahone Bay to get a picture of the three churches near the water as the weather was clear. Chuck made the entire day a great experience, and I would definitely travel with Supernova Tours again. From before the query before booking throughout the day until the follow-up email after the trip, Supernova Tours were not just easily contactable and replied promptly, but were also more than happy to add the small deviation to the tour, which other operators found themselves unable / unwilling to do. I simply can't fault the company in any way and would wholeheartedly recommend them. Thank you again, Elaina and Chuck for a great experience !!
The tour guide was fabulous, and zero issues with him. My only negative comment had to do with the 2 surprise stops, which in my opinion were useless. The first one being some sort of quasi maise, which we all in the bus didn't enjoy at all... just a bunch of junk of various pieces and parts and a maise... not anything anyone wanted to see... and then the Ovens... which also was a useless stop in everyone's opinion. It would have been better to take the time from those two extra stops and put it to walking around Mahone Bay which we drove through anyway in my opinon.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your day and that Alex helped make it a positive experience. Our Hidden Gems are a key part of this tour and are included to showcase what makes Nova Scotia's South Shore so special and unique, including the BernArt Maze and the sea caves at The Ovens Natural Park. While we understand these stops weren't your personal favourites, they have become memorable highlights for many of our guests and often inspire a return visit to explore even more of the South Shore. Thank you again for joining us and for sharing your perspective.
This was actually my second time taking a tour with Supernova Tours — first in 2024 and again in 2026 — and that alone should tell you everything you need to know! When a tour is good enough to bring you back, it’s the real deal. Everything about the experience feels so unique and thoughtfully put together. The guides are passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to be around. Halifax has so much character, and Supernova does a fantastic job of bringing it to life. If you’re visiting Halifax and looking for a tour, don’t hesitate — book it. I’ll probably be back for a third time.
Thank you, Kriti! It was a pleasure welcoming you back for another tour, and we're so glad you enjoyed your experience just as much the second time. We hope to see you again on your next visit to Nova Scotia!
Our experience was wonderful! Our guide was friendly, punctual and knowledgeable. The weather was beautiful that day and going to Peggy’s Cove as our first stop gave us an opportunity to enjoy the cove without the overcrowding I had heard so much about.
Thank you, Erika! We're glad you had a wonderful day and enjoyed the tour. It's great to hear the early stop at Peggy's Cove helped make your visit even more enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!
I truly enjoyed my tour with Mike and Peter. This is a small family- run business but felt like I was seeing the sites with some new friends. This tour was supposed to have more people but they had canceled at the last minute, so it was just me and Mike training Pete, the newest tour guide to join the company. I was grateful that they did not cancel the tour for me given that they would be driving around all day with only one person. They both could not have been nicer. It’s a fast pace with fairly little time at the first few stops (30 to 40 minutes for some of the first stops before Lunenberg, but that time is made up in Lunenberg where you have a full two hours to eat and explore. There are a ton of little shops and restaurants there. The folks in Halifax are some of the nicest people whom I have ever met, and Mike and Peter very much fit that bill. They were kind and patient. They provided me with some history as we drove along, answered my questions, and recommended several different establishments that I might like. I did not get the idea that any of those recommendations were due to compensation or kick backs in any way. They seemed to genuinely to like all of the places personally, and each recommendation they gave was perfect. I lucked out and had a beautiful sunny day, so I had the opportunity to take some gorgeous photos-especially at Peggy’s Cove as there was not a single cloud in the sky. Mike was kind enough to play the part of photographer for me as a solo traveler given that I was in Halifax for work the prior day and did not have any travel companions. I would highly recommend this tour if you are someone with limited time and/or who does not like to drive and explore on your own I found this 8- ish hour tour to be an efficient way to get to see a lot of things I would not have gotten to see if I had stayed in the Halifax city center alone. Mike’s recommendations all along the Lunenberg main street, Montague Street, regarding a great place for seafood where I had life-changing mussels ( The Grand Banker) an eclectic and fabulous coffee shop that is so cute and serves up a wonderful London Fog (No 9), a great distillery that is a converted blacksmith shop and offers samples (Ironworks) and a fantastic place for homemade ice cream with homemade waffle cones that you can smell as you pass by on the street ( Sweet Treasures) was the perfect itinerary for two hours in Lunenberg. This tour gives you a good sampling of the places that you easily could spend more hours, or even several days for some places. I found it to be a really nice overview, so when I come back to Halifax, I can hopefully see some things that I could not get to see on my own on a limited timeframe. I definitely recommend this small group tour as a great overview to the local Novartis Scotia area.
Thank you, Lisa — we’re so glad you enjoyed your day with Mike and Peter, and had a chance to experience some of Lunenburg’s great local spots along the way! We truly appreciate you touring with us.
Mike, our driver/ guide, is warm, hospitable & knowledgeable. All was well organised despite a traffic jam. We also got to learn about the life of the locals. The hidden gem at Blue Rock was fascinating.
Mike was great! Friendly knowledgeable and down to earth! Very accommodating to all on board. Thank you.
Mike our tour guide was knowledgeable and courteous. I rated this a 4 because Peggy’s Cove was a quaint and beautiful place, but the people in the shop were lacking in service. They could not even make what they had advertised on their menu board. The workers said they did not know how to make a chai latte or a London fog tea even though they were listed on their menu board, so we did not get anything there. Lunenburg was quaint, but there was not enough time here to experience the wonderful seafood restaurants and also see any other historical sites. Enjoyed seeing the Oven Caves park, just a very short time there. Although, I did not think a lot of time was needed here. Mahone Bay was cute and quaint, but not enough time here to see anything. Barely had time to get a tea and coffee and go to the bathroom. I would suggest to maybe spend more time at just a few of the spots. Perhaps Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. We appreciated getting to see a variety of places, but just not enough time to properly explore each place we went.
Thank you for your feedback! Our tours follow a set itinerary to allow guests to experience all advertised stops. With several stops on a full-day tour, it unfortunately isn’t possible to spend several hours at each location, so guests are welcome to explore and use their free time at each stop as they wish. We aim to strike a balance and will keep your comments in mind for future planning. Many guests enjoy this sampler approach to the South Shore, helping them discover their favorite spots and often inspiring a return visit. Thanks again for joining us!
Our tour was absolutely fantastic it was everything we wanted it to be. The time spent in each location was great. The fall colours were amazing.
Thank you for your review! We’re thrilled to hear you thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the fall colours.
We had a great time and Mike was an excellent driver and tour guide. Peggy’s Cove, Oven Park and Lunenburg were excellent but we really enjoyed Mahone Bay and would return fior a linger stay. Phil and Frances
Thank you for your review! We’re glad you enjoyed the tour and that Mike made it a day to remember.
