Don’t miss Palenque ruins, the waterfalls are beaten but getting there is rough and uncomfortable

The overall experience was good, really liked the Palenque site and they guide we hired at the entrance - Belen! She was amazing, very friendly, enthusiastic and made sure she gave us all the history, showed us the right spots, allowed us to take photos, have small breaks. She even introduced us to a Maya decedent and got the chance to hear the ancient Maya language. Totally with it paying 2000 MXN to have a local guide! The rest of the tour was ok but way too long. They picked us up from the hotel at 8:20 and spend a few hours until noon at the Palenque site, after that we went to the first waterfall which was quite close and spend there roughly half an hour. After that we travelled for an hour and a half to the next waterfall in a very old minibus, which was very uncomfortable. So, we reached the second waterfall around 3 which was where we could have some lunch - quite late considering that we left very early in the morning. At the second waterfall there was an option to swim in the river and for some water activities, which was great. The two hours we spent there was enough. They we travelled back and they dropped us off around 18:30. The roads were quite bad and trip was bumpy. So prepare for a rather unpleasant trip from the ruins to the waterfalls and back. The driver was very kind and helpful, spoke good English and recommended a place to eat and help us order, so very happy with him!!!

Great tour

The journey took a Collectivo first to the Palenque archaeological zone and then to the falls. Included are ride and admission. The sights are magnificent. In Palenque we have additionally booked a guide (300 pesos per person): Belen translated Spanish and English). She was excellent. Thank you Belen!!

[Caution] Don’t book here

Caution! Read before you book This is just a shared taxi service with an unreasonable prices, there will be extra fee for guide and food. You can definitely find some same services everywhere in Palenque with an almost HALF price. So don’t book the trip here, go to Palenque and you will find a ton of great options with a way better price Photos below are the prices we found with the exact same content and services with much lower prices including themselves, the operator, providing a much better option when you are there.

No transparency around additional costs for guides. Driver does not speak English.

The main problem is that when booking there was ambiguous and unclear information about the guides for the Palenque ruins. We were very surprised (as were the other people in our van) that the guide requested $400Mxn pesos each for the guide. This was a very steep price. It was then negotiated to $100Mxn pesos when we all had expected this to be included. There were no exclusions noted on the site. If there is a cost for a guide it should be clearly stated so people know what to expect. The driver Kimchan was very nice, but could not speak any useable English. All instructions were only in Spanish. The sites themselves were glorious.

Bad driver

Locations were beautiful but the driver who took us everywhere really couldn't drive! Everyone was sickened by his driving! As if he was constantly in a hurry to make more money. Different people from other tours also joined each time. Maybe better to take the collectivo.
