Auf dieser Tour erkunden Sie nach St. Peter drei der wichtigsten Basiliken der Welt: St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major und St. Paul vor den Mauern. Die Basilika St. John Lateran wurde im 4. Jahrhundert vom Kaiser Konstantin erbaut und ist die älteste Kirche der westlichen Welt. St. John Latera ist ein ehemaliger Sitz des Papsttums und der heutige Sitz der Erzdiözese Rom. Zu seinen vielen Schätzen zählen die ursprünglichen Türen der römischen Kurie oder des Senats. In der Nähe befindet sich die Scala Sancta (Heilige Treppe), auf der Chist vor Pontius Pilatus vor Gericht stand. St. Mary Major ist eine der ältesten Kirchen, die Maria, der Mutter Jesu, gewidmet ist. Sie ist bekannt für ihre Mosaike mit Szenen aus dem Leben Mariens. Es beherbergt auch das Relikt der Krippe Christi. Last but not least ist die Basilika St. Paul außerhalb der Mauern die zweitgrößte Basilika nach dem Petersdom. Es wurde auf der Grabstätte von St. Paul gegründet.

There is NOTHING like Saint Mary Major ranks up there with the Vatican. All 3 were great visits as this was our 4th time to Rome and wanted to see where the late Pope Francis is buried.

Built by Emperor Constatus the Great, it was consecrated in 324, is very beautiful and has one of the 4 Holy Doors that Rome has. Don’t miss out on your visit to the city.
TripAdvisor sent a message to me saying that I said something inappropriate and against the rules, but I don’t see it. Here’s my review containing just facts: “Around 313 AD, Constantine I, after marrying Fausta, donated the Domus Laterani to the Bishop of Rome. It is believed this donation occurred during the pontificate of Pope Miltiades This donation of the Domus Laterani paved the way for the construction of the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, which stands on the site today. The basilica is considered the cathedral of Rome and the oldest public church in the Western world. “
We enjoy visiting all three of Papal Basilicas. We went late morning there was not a huge crowd. Seems that is the best time to visit all three Basilicas.

The basilicas are absolutely worth a visit, and our guide was able to explain and show us so much that it added to the experience. Our guide tailored the tour to us as we went. She was very knowledgeable and may the visits so much better than had we done it on our own.
