Operation Mincemeat: Ein neues Musical am Broadway

We were very disappointed in the musical, Operation Mincemeat, at the Golden Theater. My husband and I were both looking forward to a fun performance with historical significance and comedic elements that would be entertaining to the audience. Instead, we were completely bored by the script, performances and confused by the lack of comedy in the show. We left a little after the second act in the hopes that it would get better, but it never did. The cross gender casting for the roles was not intended to provide any comedy to the performance. Since this musical was based on a book and eventual movie of the same name, we were aware of the many characters and their gender. Instead, this musical cast women to play most of the male roles and men to play some of the female roles and if they did indeed play male roles, they were wearing full makeup complete with false eyelashes in military uniform. The effect was rather jarring & off putting especially since they didn’t use this type of casting in any comedic way and it was not a drag show. The totality of the cast was sparse and many numbers and jokes fell flat. This musical was one of the worst we have ever seen and we are frequent Broadway theater attendees.

The theater was packed but they had plenty of ushers to seat you. The musical started promptly at 2. The actors were amazing. We had 2 understudies who definitely held up their end against the stars. The crazy amount of dialogue, staging and timing was spectacular. Their energy was infectious and the script totally unpredictable in a fabulous way. When i read what operation mincemeat was actually about i had doubts i would like it- it was a unbelievable fun, professional and finely crafted show. Loved it.

Absolutely fabulous show. The actors were amazingly skilful instantly turning into extra characters whilst still on stage. Really catchy songs and very well written. The only reason for the one star off was the seating in the theatre. It is exceptionally cramped. Fine when sitting with your own family but if sat next to strangers it is a little too cosy. Suggest leaving a gap where possible for your comfort

This is a very good show with a couple of really great numbers. The actors are wonderful and the singing is amazing. It tells a very interesting story with lots of humor. I enjoyed the performances and the touching moments.

This is a fast-paced , high-energy musical in the Gilbert & Sullivan style, with a talented cast of five playing dozens of roles amid rapid-fire, split-second-timing costume and scene changes. It’s the true story of a British intelligence coup which successfully deflected the Nazis during World War Two. Sight gags abound, and clever plot and lyric twists keep the story moving. The lead singers are outstanding and fill the theater with high emotions and one haunting love song. The set and lighting are clever, filled with surprises and expertly executed. Lyrics are challenging to follow because the dialog is so rapid, but the story lines are clear. As usual in Broadway’s historic theaters, seats are expensive and very uncomfortable, and restroom facilities are inconvenient. There are a lot of stairs in the Golden Theater. This is a five-star show! Like most historic Broadway theatres, the Golden is beautiful inside, but saddled with the inconveniences of unmodernized venues, including lots of stairs (no elevators for patrons), cramped seating and inconveniently-located restrooms.

Having five cast members play roles across genders with simply disconcerting and interfered with the audience's ability to understand who was supposed to be who on the stage of any given time. A real shame, since the music and the show itself could have been quite good. This was kind of a sad attempt to mimic what Hamilton achieved with race, and it just didn't work. Watch the movie instead.

Sat in the last row- it was cute and funny but I was expecting more emotional levels due to the storyline- it was mostly slapstick. I think it would be good for a family with kids to learn about history in a funny way.

This Broadway show comes as close to portraying a real WWII event as well as any musical comedy could. The songs were poignant and appropriate. Funny!

Pretty bad. About as funny as a mediocre sitcom with weird swerves in tone and focus. Surely there are better theater options in NY. Would actively discourage you from going.
