Reiseverlauf

Great birding tour in Ptasi Raj, with skilled guide Ryan who helped us spot species like red-breasted flycatcher, golden oriole and white-tailed eagle. Ryan is an easygoing and friendly guide who is of great help for beginning as well as experienced birdwatchers.
We had an amazing time on the Winter Wildlife experience with Ryan from Ladybird Tours in Gdańsk, Poland. The tour took us through the beautiful Ptasi Raj nature preserve, where we walked quiet forest trails and visited two different blinds overlooking the lakes. We spotted an impressive variety of birds—several species of ducks, a huge flock of Tufted Ducks, a striking White-Tailed Eagle, and even the rarer Long-Tailed Duck. Ryan was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, the trails, and the local wildlife. He kept us updated on recent moose activity, and thanks to his guidance we were lucky enough to glimpse two bull moose moving through the forest. His friendly demeanor and native English fluency made the experience relaxed and enjoyable. The thoughtful extras really stood out, too—Ryan brought loaner binoculars (a lifesaver since I don’t travel with mine) and a flask of hot chocolate that was perfect for warming up along the way. Reaching the nature preserve was easy using the city bus line, and Ladybird Tours was very helpful in directing us to the correct stop. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this tour if you’re in the area. It’s a fantastic way to see local wildlife, enjoy some peaceful nature, and take a refreshing break from the city. Highly recommended!
Hi Michelle, Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and generous review — it really means a great deal to us. It was a genuine pleasure welcoming you and your husband to Sobieszewo this November and sharing a winter day in Ptasi Raj together. The quiet forest trails and lake hides are especially magical at that time of year, and we’re so glad the wildlife delivered. We were especially delighted that the moose made an appearance — seeing two bull moose moving through the forest is never guaranteed, so it was a fantastic spot. Wishing you happy birding wherever your travels take you next. If you ever return to the Gdańsk area, we’d love to welcome you back — with a returning-guest discount waiting for you :)
Ryan the tour guide was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly too. All the way he was very attentive to the chirping and other noises around us! My husband and I will treasure our first bird watching experience for a lifetime. It was our first but surely not the last! Thanks Ryan for your service which I recommend 👏👍
Hi Kaya, We’re so glad your first birdwatching experience was a positive one — that’s lovely to hear. Thanks for coming along and for the recommendation. Hopefully it won’t be your last time birding!
We had a wonderfully good time in Ryan's company. The man is very passionate and knowledgeable when it comes to the fauna and flora. As a fellow birder myself it was awesome to exchange stories, trivia and recommendations with him. The nature is beautiful and he made sure we didn't lack any essentials like mosquito repellent. We saw over thirty species of birds, including an exciting lesser spotted woodpecker. He taught us about the local fungi too. The weather wasn't perfect but it would have taken more than that to dampen our enthusiasm. Clearly would recommend with my eyes closed.
Lovely welcoming you & your husband to Sobieszewo this Autumn — we’re so pleased you enjoyed the range of wildlife and the tour itself. Wishing you a great 2026!
We (a group of 4) took a morning tour of the Ptasi Raj reserve with Ryan on a Friday morning. Weather was perfect, and the pace of the walk and the stops we made were all good. Ryan's knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the flora & fauna of the reserve were obvious, and we were rewarded with good views of Black Woodpecker, Common Redstart, Goldcrest, a spectacular Hobby (hawking dragonflies), Bearded Reedling, Common Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Raven, a possible Ferruginous Duck and a number of more common woodland, wetland and coastal species, including Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Goldeneye and Cormorant. We also had an excellent lunch in the nearby cafe. This was part of a 4-day trip to Gdansk, and a great way to get out of the city and see the Polish countryside. One word of advice, don't debate whether you'll need insect repellent : you will.
Thank you so much for your review! It was a real pleasure showing your group a slice of the Polish countryside, and we’re thrilled that the tour was a highlight of your Gdańsk city break. It’s fantastic to hear that people are discovering us as something a bit different to do while visiting, that kind of feedback really means a lot.
Ryan is an outstanding guide, and he’s a pleasure to talk to . He knows bird song and he’s intimately familiar with the Mewia Łacha reserve. We saw unusual birds - kingfisher and lesser spotted woodpecker - as well as chaffinchs feeding their young. And a Caspian tern up close! We saw around 40 types of birds. I highly recommend hiring him, whether you’re a new or experienced birder.
Thanks for the review! It was great having you with us Amy — brilliant list of sightings, those Kingfishers were such a good spot whilst waiting for the ferry! Wishing you fantastic birding in 2026, and if you’re ever back in northern Poland get in touch!
Our guide was so interesting and knowledgable about the rich wildlife of the local area. We really saw a lot of different species. Highly recommended.
We’re really glad you enjoyed the tour and got to see such a good variety of wildlife — Sobieszewo has a way of surprising people. Thanks for the recommendation, wishing you many great adventures for the year head :)
10 out of 10 would recommend. Lovely walk through a beautiful forest with a very knowledgeable and also funny guide. I was amazed by Ryan’s ability to recognize birds by their songs and by his enthusiasm. For families with small kids: it’s totally possible to take that tour with a pram :)
Thanks for the kind words, it was a pleasure taking you and your family around the reserve. It's always a joy exploring nature with little ones!
This was a lovely experience. I saw no less than 23 kind of birds, including a white tailed eagle. The guide, Ryan, was easy going, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. 10/10 would recommend.
Thanks for the review Petra, that White Tailed Eagle was a true highlight.
The tour was amazing, it’s a very pleasant walk in the forest and on the beach whilst watching and listening to all sorts of birds. Ryan was extremely knowledgeable and a great guide! Would definitely recommend if you are visiting Sobieszewo.
Thanks a lot for the review Dmytro, glad you enjoyed the tour!
