I’m a solo traveler and had a few days in Arcos de Valdevez that I had waited until the last minute to look for guided tours. I couldn’t find any availability for hiking with a guide. My hotel called Bruno, from Montesa. Even though he was in the middle of a guided hike, he responded with options for my very limited time. He offered to take me after a full day of work, for 4 hours(his time off). I was picked up and dropped off at my hotel as well. As far as the experience….I can’t begin to describe how beautiful the varied landscape and scenery was at that time of the day(5-9:30 pm). Bruno took me to few villages, drove through several, and did a couple of hikes to waterfalls and lagoons. Then he drove further into the national park (another hike with old Roman roads and mole makers, waterfalls)….then back via a different route through the mountains with the most incredible views as the sun was setting. All throughout educating me on the local landscape, park, wildlife, history, etc. I can’t say enough about my experience. The effort Bruno went to to make sure I was able to see as much of the area as he could show me in such limited time. He went out of his way, was kind, comfortable, and very attentive, he made my stay here unforgettable. I would definitely recommend as well as contact Bruno again if I have a second opportunity to visit the area!!
