It's cool down there - between 12 and 16 degrees so prepare for that. It's quite busy, so you can often overhear other group whilst trying to listen to your guide. Our guide walked very fast, so if you can't walk quickly for about 40 minutes with breaks, then do tell them.
This was a super cool tour!! We loved hearing about the long history of the underground and more about Naples!
Worthwhile experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept our group together. A must do tour.
Good little tour. Be forewarned some parts won’t work for anyone who is mildly (or very) claustrophobic. Also there are ~150 steps down and then back up. This was all fine for us but I can imagine it might not work for some!
Experience to be done with a local and competent guide
I was one of about 30 people on the tour. The guide was very personable and knowledgeable, and he made the tour entertaining with interesting stories and a bit of humor. Physically, this could be a challenge for some folks, as you must traverse lot of stairs to descend 40 meters underground to see 2000 year old chambers and tunnels. When hot outside, this was a great escape to the cool underground, but you get to come back up to see the last part of the tour, which includes the excavated portions of a large Roman amphitheater.
The meeting place is highly misleading, as Google Maps leads you to the wrong address - when flagged, and we were unable to attend because we didn't have enough time to reach the correct address, the company did not want to provide a full refund. Instead we were notified 30 minutes before the next tour, which we couldn't attend. Very poor and ill-advertised service overall.
Worth going to, fairly well organised and tours guides know their subject. A bit difficult to hear them when two tours going on but still definitely worthwhile.
Group size was way too big, lost some people in our group for a time. No expectations were set and people were talking constantly. Too many tours going on at the same time and as a result, couldn't hear our guide at all but were consistently told to be quiet by other guides who were trying to present in the same space or a space we were walking through. Some of the things were staged just to have something more to look at- replica bombs and plants with grow lights but didn't get to see the parts that would have been interesting like the facilities installed during world war II while residents sheltered from the war.
Beautiful experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. It was easy to find the meeting point and access was quick.
