Amazing way to get to know the real Nairobi!

What an incredible glimpse into life in Nairobi’s CBD! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nairobi who wants to experience the city beyond the usual tourist attractions and gain a deeper understanding of its people, history, and culture. Morgan, our guide, was exceptional. His passion for the city that raised him was evident throughout the tour, and hearing his personal story of overcoming hardship from a young age made the experience even more meaningful. The stories he shared, along with the people we met along the way, kept us engaged from start to finish and left us wanting to learn more. Downtown Nairobi was a real surprise and completely different from what we expected. The tour provided a fascinating insight into parts of the city that many visitors would never experience on their own. It was the perfect length, giving us a well-rounded snapshot of Nairobi while allowing enough time to take everything in. Thank you to the Nai Nami team and to Morgan for such a memorable experience. The story behind this tour is truly inspiring, and it was one of the highlights of our time in Nairobi.

Great concept but needs some refinement

The tour shared the story of a young boy's life on the streets and how his time in prison as a young adult became a turning point toward a better future. It was interesting to hear his experiences, and stepping away from the usual tourist areas into the downtown streets offered a very different perspective. We also learnt a few basic Swahili greetings, and lunch featured local dishes. We were the only guests on the tour, and throughout the experience several additional guides joined us at different times (five in total). Although each was introduced, the tour focused solely on our main guide’s story, and we didn’t hear from the others. I booked based on all the good reviews, unfortunately my expectations weren't quite meet, I think they can do better and be great with some small changes. I did find the tour overpriced, especially the unexpected costs of contributing further to provide meals for street children, shout beers and pay for our transport back to the advertised end point. More transparency about how the tour fees support the community would have been appreciated, as I'm not sure this is happening and feel that it is more about providing employment for the reformed guides. How are the guides working with local youth, helping them change direction, and discouraging them from committing crime or living on the streets? What have the outcomes been? The concept is strong, but several improvements would make a big difference: Guide punctuality — Guides should arrive on time, ideally a few minutes early. Clear identification — Guides should be easily recognisable as part of Nai Nami. Being approached with only “I’m your guide” felt uncertain, especially in a busy area with many locals offering tours. Transparent costs — When offering extras like local beers, it should be made clear whether these are included or additional. Buying a drink for the guide is fair, but covering drinks for multiple guides felt inappropriate, especially when being asked to contribute to feeding vulnerable youth. Accurate start/finish details — The tour was advertised as starting and ending in the same place, but this wasn’t the case. After lunch, we were instead offered assistance with arranging transport back to the CBD. With a few thoughtful tweaks I think this can be a great tour. Wishing Nai Nami all the best.

Impactful and authentic Nairobi experience

I had such an amazing walking tour with Morgan! I was on a solo trip to Nairobi, and he and the Nai Nami team went out of their way to customize the tour, making me feel I was in great hands throughout. Morgan guided me through the some of most significant parts of the city, many of which I probably wouldn't have gotten to see by myself. He was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of my questions, including many about politics and society in Kenya. On top of that, he's a fantastic (and funny!) storyteller. The highlight of the tour was listening to his personal stories and visiting the places he called home growing up. This was an unforgettable experience that I would recommend to anyone seeking an authentic way to explore Nairobi!

The best experience

Quick was our guide for this tour, and he was both very friendly and gentlemanly. He truly knows this city inside and out, and I learned so much from him. The whole team was also very friendly, and we were laughing from beginning to end. If I come back again in the future, I would definitely love to have Quick as my guide again.

Great experince

It was a good experience because we visited Nairobi with two girls, and it was difficult to walk just by ourselves. The guides were very nice and friendly, which made us feel free to ask questions and interact. Their life story when they were street children was very interesting. I understand that street children are leading a very hard life. I think they can give us a way to use the fee. We paid a lot, but they suggested us to donate more money for street children. They need to explain about hoe they are using money.

Special city tour!

It was a very special experience to step into the world of these guys. Morgan’s story was gripping, the safety was well taken care of & not insignificant; the boys were fun! Definitely recommended to really get to know Nairobi.

Great Experience as a Solo Traveler

An amazing introduction to Nairobi and the culture. I'm a Solo Traveler and was running late because of traffic. King, Quick, Kimani, Donga (+more) everyone waited for my arrival. I was the only one on the tour and they laid out the red carpet for me. I felt very safe as Quick talked about each community the others were close by watching to keep me safe. This was my biggest take away. Quick told me a lot about his upbringing and the different communities within downtown Nairobi. A must do tour that will leave humbled yet inspired. Thank you to everyone. You are now my Kenya family.

Good but

Interesting walk that shows you that it is a part of the city that is difficult to go as a tourist. We had a new driver and two people following us from behind. We felt very safe. The negative is that they don’t tell you much information, everything is extremely dirty (we went after rain), our driver constantly stressed his difficult life and in the end we felt exploited that we were suggested to call us a taxi. I would recommend it more because there is not much to do in this city!
