Al Khor ist eine Küstenstadt im Norden Katars, 50 Kilometer nördlich der Hauptstadt Doha gelegen. Al Khor wurde von den Al Muhannadi regiert, einem Stamm, der aus mehreren Beduinenfamilien besteht. Der Hafen von Al Khor, das Zentrum des Landes für Perlentauchen und -fischen in den alten Zeiten. Und die Reparatur- und Renovierungswerft für alte Schiffe.
Es ist eng mit der Stadt Al Khor verbunden, die beide vom Stamm der Al Muhannadi gegründet wurden. Wie andere Küstensiedlungen in der Gegend verließen sich seine Bewohner historisch ausschließlich auf Perlenfischen und Fischen, um sich zu ernähren. Zusammen mit Al Khor City befinden sich direkt vor der Küste rund 1.392 Hektar Mangroven, was die Küste zwischen Al Thakhira und Al Khor City zum am dichtesten besiedelten Mangrovenlebensraum in Katar macht. Der AL THAKIRA MANGROVE FOREST gehört zu den ältesten und größten Wäldern Katars.
Al Zubara Fort ist eine historische katarische Militärfestung, die 1938 unter der Aufsicht von Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani erbaut wurde. Diese Festung aus dem 20. Jahrhundert ist das jüngste und prominenteste Merkmal der archäologischen Stätte Al Zubarah, die zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehört. Ein makelloses Beispiel einer typischen arabischen Festung, deren ein Meter dicke Mauern Eindringlinge abwehrten und dazu beitrugen, die Räume während der Zeit kühl zu halten heißer Sommer. Das Fort, das in Anerkennung seiner Erhaltung und als einzigartiges Beispiel einer prägenden Periode in die Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen wurde, ist der perfekte Ort für Fans der Geschichte des Nahen Ostens, um mehr über das militärische Leben in Katar im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert zu erfahren Jahrhunderte.
An der Nordwestküste Katars liegt das kleine traditionelle Dorf Al Jumail. Es war einst von der Familie Al Kubaisi bewohnt und ist bis heute ein beliebtes Wochenendziel für lokale Familien, da es ihr Kulturerbe, ihre Geschichte und ihre angestammten Wurzeln repräsentiert. Das Dorf besteht aus einer Reihe wichtiger traditioneller Gebäude, darunter eine kleine Moschee mit ihrem Minarett noch intakt. Dieses Dorf stammt aus dem frühen 19. Jahrhundert und war noch bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts bewohnt.

Brilliant afternoon with Zubair going north from Doha on a boiling summer day. Well planned and organized itinerary, very good vehicle and attentive, knowledgeable and zen guide/driver. Highly recommended if you have some time and want to get out of Doha.
We contacted Qatar International Tours from our hometown (Munich, Germany) by email to arrange a trip through the north of Qatar. Communication was easy, replies were very fast, and we received a great offer, which we paid before traveling. Once in Qatar, we stayed in touch via WhatsApp to organize meeting points and schedules. Everything went smoothly and effortlessly. We were picked up at our hotel in central Qatar and started our tour at 8:30 a.m. Our first stop was Al Khor, where we visited the fish market and went kayaking in the young mangroves that are now growing in Qatar. The boats were safe and family-friendly, making the experience easy and enjoyable for everyone. Our tour guide, Mr. Prakash, knew the best timing, so we went at high tide, which allowed us to see the mangroves’ famous highlights: fish breeding grounds, colorful birds, and more. We had a small hiccup, we forgot our change of clothes at the hotel—but Mr. Prakash took us to a mall so we could buy dry clothes, turning it into a fun little adventure. Lunch at an Arabian restaurant was amazing, so many flavors, and truly delicious! Afterward, we visited the UNESCO World Heritage sites and returned to our hotel around 6 p.m. We are especially grateful to Mr. Prakash, who shared so much knowledge about Qatar, its history, and how life works in a country where people from so many different nations live together. Great tour of the north. Private so on your own terms. Zubair was informative and patient with my many questions and time at the site. It’s a great tour. Only downside is that I visited Qatar in summer- go a different time of year of your schedule allows when it is cooler. The fort and archeological site was amazing!!!
