My girlfriend and I had a great time! The whole experience was seamless and we both really enjoyed it. The sunrise was amazing and we had a fantastic guide who drove us and took some amazing pictures! Also special mention to Novi who picked us up and dropped us off - great service. Thank you
We booked the Mount Batur Sunrise Jeep Tour through TripAdvisor because we expected a higher level of quality and reliability, even though it was more expensive than booking locally. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake. The problems started shortly after booking. The company suddenly changed our pickup time and then tried to charge extra for hotel pickup, even though hotel pickup was clearly included in both the tour description and our TripAdvisor confirmation. This was especially frustrating since our hotel was located very close to Mount Batur. When we were finally picked up, our driver was clearly sick and struggling to stay awake while driving — despite driving very fast on narrow roads. This was honestly quite uncomfortable and unsafe. At the pickup point, we were transferred to a young Jeep driver who was very kind and clearly doing his best, despite speaking very limited English. Unfortunately, shortly after the tour started, the Jeep broke down completely. The young driver repeatedly tried to contact his boss, but nobody answered the phone. In the end, we had to walk the rest of the way uphill ourselves, which was exhausting. When we arrived, the poor young driver managed to find a couple of chairs for us since we no longer had a Jeep to sit in like the hundreds of other tourists arriving in functioning vehicles. The sunrise itself was fine — but definitely not the peaceful, magical volcano experience that is advertised online. If you imagine standing peacefully on top of a volcano watching a beautiful sunrise in silence, you should know the reality is very different. The “sunrise viewpoint” is essentially a dirty parking area on the mountainside packed with around 200 Jeeps and hundreds of tourists. Most people seemed far more interested in Instagram photos, drones, posing on Jeep rooftops, and loud music than actually watching the sunrise. Five minutes after sunrise, all the Jeeps started their engines at once, and the air quickly filled with exhaust fumes from old, poorly maintained vehicles. Eventually, the young driver managed to contact his boss, and another very worn-down Jeep arrived. We clearly explained that we simply wanted to return to our driver and end the tour so we could move on and enjoy the rest of our otherwise fantastic Bali vacation. Instead, they drove us further down to the “Black Lava” area — which honestly felt more like a tourist trap than a natural experience. It was crowded with Jeeps, flies, influencers filming content, and more people posing for social media photos. We immediately asked to leave and thankfully managed to meet our original driver halfway back so we didn’t have to continue through the endless Jeep traffic. In summary: - Booking through TripAdvisor is clearly not a guarantee of quality. - In our case, the local operator (mountbaturjeep.com) seemed poorly organized and poorly maintained. - The Mount Batur Jeep Sunrise Tour is not the peaceful, authentic volcano sunrise experience many people probably imagine. - It is closer to a crowded Instagram attraction built around Jeeps, social media photos, and mass tourism. Beautiful views, but overall a very disappointing experience.
Dear Jacob, Thank you for sharing your experience. However, we would like to clarify that the company you mentioned in your review, mountbaturjeep.com, is not our company and is not associated with our business. Our official website is mountbaturjeepsunrisetour.com. As your review specifically refers to another operator, it appears that this review may have been posted on the wrong business listing. We respectfully ask that you review your booking details and consider updating or removing this review so it can be directed to the correct tour operator. Thank you for your understanding. We had a great experience with Cahya from Mt. Batur Jeep adventure. We felt safe under his guidance, he was fun and he took great pictures for us. Would recommend him to anyone!!
The driver is very kind and good at taking pictures and also gives us enough time. His name is Chaya.
It's our first Bali trip and my husband enjoyed the jeep ride up mount batur and also the black lava. Early in the morning we get to see the stars before the sunrise. Beautiful photos taken by our driver Jow! He's very attentive n always there to assist my daughter cheering her up when she's afraid and also bring us breakfast to enjoy before the sunrise! Great effort from Jow to come all the way to our small villa to pick us up/return and also book a good spot for us to catch the sunrise! Will book the jeep ride again when I come with my family members again in future! Thanks!
Very, very disappointing. Driver failed to turn up for the confirmed 2:30am pickup. No further contact was received despite them having our full details. Ruined our morning and our sleep.
Dear Javiba, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment you experienced. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication regarding the pickup arrangement on the day of your tour. We understand how frustrating it was to wake up early, prepare for the trip, and then miss the experience you were looking forward to. We fully understand that this affected both your morning and your sleep. Please accept our sincere apologies. We take full responsibility for the lack of communication and recognize that we should have handled the situation much better. Your feedback has been shared with our team so we can improve our coordination and communication to prevent this from happening again. We appreciate your patience and the opportunity to learn from this experience. Once again, we are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Jero Mount Batur Jeep Sunrise Tour
The whole experience has been very beautiful, first we went to a coffee tasting where they make you a mini explanation of each coffee they have and give you a free testing, then we went to some amazing natural hot springs and to finish the excursion by Jeep by black lava and black sand, finally we climbed to the top of the volcano, it was foggy and you could not see too much in the distance but the experience was unique and super enriching. Thank you to our driver Kadek Archana, super nice and super nice, we were talking to him a lot and he was explaining things about Bali, without doubt the best driver we have had so far. Thank you very much Kadek for joining us in this experience.
Mount Batur Jeep tour has been such an experience for me and my partner! The coldness, the terrain, the environment is all new to us. Led by our most humble driver, Mang Sute. I would like to recommend him for your upcoming travels as he does not just drives you there, he helps you with your photos, connects with you and really makes you feel safe under his care. Though it was a cloudy sunrise, the journey itself was such a moving experience. Definitely would be back here again soon!
Kedek was my Trekking Guide. He was very responsible to ensure our safety, and that we were hydrated and provided small stops to cater to our needs. He took care of us very well throughout the hike and i was well assured of my safety. He helped us to take nice photos up in the summit too. Novi was my jeep driver. She helped us took some nice photos and videos for our memories! Thank you for creating fond memories for my adventure in Mount Batuk..
Great trip, highly recommended. Agas was very kind and did a great job navigating us to the top of the mountain and to the lava rocks. She was very accommodating and was always available to take our pictures. I can’t recommend her enough!
