Great day trip from Paris to two beautiful champagne houses! A few little stops along the way add to the experience. Our driver Max was very attentive and made the best use of our time. Even our twelve year old daughter who was concerned she would be bored had the best time!
A wonderful day to experience the Champagne region. Our driver picked us up at our hotel. We stopped at a boulangerie for some pastries and coffee - then proceeded to Moet & Chadon! The tour there was perfect. Not too long - just enough to give you a great understanding and then finished with a tasting of 2 glasses of champagne. Next we went to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Reims - absolutely beautiful. We had a stop for lunch and then he took us to Veuve Cliquot. We had the cellar tour and we finished with a tasting of 4 of their champagnes. It was a perfect day. Seeing two houses and tours of the cellars was perfect.
This experience is marketed as a guided tour through Reims showing historic highlights of the city along with wine tours. Our experience could more accurately be described as a private drive to champagne tours only… Our driver promptly picked us up at our hotel and did successfully deliver us to our appointments at 2 champagne houses. He did not speak English well and did not talk to us during our nearly 2 hour drive to Reims. On the way to the lunch stop after our first tour at Veuve Clicquot he informed us that our next tour would be 4 hours later! He left us in a very touristy city center at a lackluster restaurant and encouraged us to visit the cathedral. This itinerary change was never communicated prior to the tour despite the fact that the tour company had reached out to share other itinerary changes prior to the tour. After spending nearly half a day browsing on our own he picked us up and delivered us to the final wine tasting at Tattingier. Both tastings were fine. The unexpected delay in the second tasting delayed our return by nearly 2 hours. Our group had to scramble to find dinner accommodations at such a late hour on a holiday weekend.
We are thankful to all our customers participating at our trips but we don't like anyway if somebody lies. This trip is a Champagne tastings trip and not a historic highlights thrip. We visit 2 Champagne houses Moet et Chandon Veuve Clicquot where the local staff makes very nice English guided Cellars tours and tastings rated as a rule with 5 stars. We make as well two stops: one in Reims for self-guided Reims Cathedral visiting and onother in Hautvillers village for photo shooting of vineyards and Dom Perignon church visit. This is a small cultural addition offered free of charge. It is a Private experience (not shared) so no other guests in our Mercedes.
4 Stars only due to the so-so tour at Moët. The tour guide there was not that good. Too much filler on the tour as well. The second tour at Veuve was much better. Roman was a nice driver and helpful. I would do a single tour at Veuve and the morning 4-hour tour there. They serve the Grande Dame in that tour.
Highly recommend this experience. The convenience of hotel pick up/drop off and not having to think about where we needed to be at what time or book our tours was so helpful and stress free. My only recommendation would be to book your own lunch reservation if you want to go to a specific place, as the tour operator confirmed via chat 6 weeks in advance the restaurant we preferred was confirmed (so we assumed that meant they had secured the reservation), but then day of we were told it wasn’t available. The fact that they made a lunch reservation period was nice, but just fyi as that was our only disappointment for the day. The churches, sightseeing and champagne tours were fabulous. Shoutout to our driver, Roman, who was very professional, flexible and friendly.
This is an absolute MUST DO! Roman was our guide and simply amazing. Highly recommend to spend a day outside of the city.
This is a long drive - but a fun day. Four tastings at Veuve Clicquot with a tour I thoroughly enjoyed; and 2 tastings at Moet & Chandon with a nice tour. A couple stops at churches and vistas for photographs and a lively lunch. Our driver, Roman, was very nice, timely, and polite, but I would not consider him a tour guide. The views are beautiful, and it is wonderful to get out of Paris for a day and taste these fabulous champagnes. I learned much, and have a new favorite.
Thank You so much for the participation at this tour and correct description of Your experience. Try next time Ruinart and Taittigner to extend your knowledge about Champagne ! We would like just to pay Your attention to the information You could find in our tour description: "You will be served by our experienced chauffeur who is responsible to bring You to all places on time providing the entrance tickets, but he is not a guide." For most travellers English Guided tours at two Champagne houses made by experienced local staff are enough. Anyway we offer a Live guide coming with travellers along the whole trip for a surcharge if needed. Thank You again and have only nice and very nice trips in France !
I cannot recommend this experience enough! Our driver was wonderful and so attentive and didn’t mind taking pictures for my mother and I. We enjoyed all of the tastings, and the restaurant we had lunch at in Épernay was beautiful. All around a great experience as we celebrated my daughter’s birthday!
When booking our day trip, we were told that Veuve Clicquot was unavailable, but that Taittinger was open which was fine by us. Our driver Aslan was right on time for our pick up. He was courteous and professional and rather quiet. We went to all the stops as was mentioned on the Viator tour. At one point, we were early for our Taittinger reservation so we drove over to the Veuve Clicquot’s boutique to kill time. It was great thinking on his part rather just sit in the parking lot. We are so happy with Taittinger’s tour. It was informative and the champagne tasting was paired with mini bites of food. The caves below the champagne houses were incredible. No worries for those who cannot walk down steps. There was an elderly couple in our 12 person group that was guided to an elevator. We were on our own for lunch and were early for the Moet tour so we had some time to walk along the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. The Moet tour was equally interesting but no food, just bread sticks. My only suggestion for this tour is that it would be nice to have a driver that spoke English. Aslan’s first language is Russian. We communicated through our phone translations app which helped, but it would have been nice to be able to speak to someone who knew the Champagne region. He was an excellent driver and was courteous, opening the doors, giving us the time and meeting points at each stop. He said that he will be working on his English over the winter as business slows down. I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to break away from Paris for a day.
Driver was great and the two tours were informative and fantastic! Niems cathedral is an amazing stop and several great lunch places. Well worth the trip!
