Very fun and well organized, and our guide Miguel was very knowledgeable and entertaining at every stop. A half day was the perfect amount of time, and we didn’t feel rushed or bored at any point
The tour guide, Flor, is very good and did a great job of delivering the content English and Spanish, but I was puzzled as to why they don't have separate tours for English and Spanish. Having to switch between languages cuts down the amount of time to deliver information in half for everyone. The itinerary is also poorly though out and timed. We had 25 min in El Tule, which is barely enough to enjoy the tree, not to mention that it leaves no time to look around the area, buy anything in local tiendas, etc. Same for the tour in Mitla, which allows for almost no time at all to look around in the ruins or in the area surrounding it. Meanwhile, we spent over an hour at the weaving workshop which, while very cool, is a wee bit tourist-trappy. And then, instead of eating at any of the local restaurants around Mitla or being driven back to the city, you're forced to go to a mediocre roadside buffet...
This is a great half-day trip, very easy from Oaxaca Center. The tour guide did a great job of sharing Zapotec and Aztec history, which I particularly enjoyed. It's a nice cultural experience that shows a lot of regional pride.
We were so delighted with all of the experiences. Our guide Angel was thorough, knowledgable, and funny. This was our best day in Mexico! Thank you!
Great tour :: Great guide, Angel :: Interesting throughout the whole trip :: Fantastic Experience :: Would recommend Tour company contract w/ a better restaurant - only less-than wonderful part of the tour.
I had the option to extend to the full day, and I'm so glad I did. I learned so much about Zapotec culture and craft. Angel is a gifted guide, who appreciated my interest in the Underworld mythology surrounding the "Temple of Rest", and we had a wonderful discussion about the possible themes encoded into the architecture. The weaving demonstration was also incredible, witnessing the treatment, spinning, and weaving of the wool--not to mention the the dyes and their origins. The mezcal tasting was where the group really started to interact, because mezcal. I was already a mezcal aficionado, but know I'm a more knowledgeable one. Extending the day took me to Herve de Agua. Just go for it. It's an incredible natural phenomenon, something that will live in my memory for the rest of my life, as permanent as the feature itself. It was a scorching hot day, and swimming in the cold pools was a welcome relief. (I didn't bring a swimsuit, since I hadn't planned on this part but was able to buy one there for $120 MXN.) I finished the day in deep conversation with a new friend I met on the tour, over a cold mezcalita. The day was 10/10.
We were picked up right on time. Our guide Angel was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the tule tree, rug creation process (very involved!), and Mitla. We really enjoyed our tour.
Informative tour, about the history and culture of the region and people. The guide was knowledgeable and spoke clearly at each stop.
Well organized. First rate guide. Good value.Mitla is intimate and accessible. The weaving demonstration was enlightening.
This was a good tour...not as important as Monte Alban, but worthwhile, nonetheless. Our guide, Miguel, was great. Had excellent command of both Spanish and English and had a lot of information to share.
