Der Platz Jemaa el-Fna ist die Hauptattraktion der Stadt, er ist einer der wichtigsten Kulturräume in Marrakesch und seit seiner Gründung im elften Jahrhundert zu einem der Symbole der Stadt geworden. Es stellt eine einzigartige Konzentration populärer marokkanischer kultureller Traditionen dar, die durch musikalische, religiöse und künstlerische Ausdrucksformen aufgeführt werden. Den ganzen Tag und bis weit in die Nacht werden eine Vielzahl von Dienstleistungen angeboten, wie Zahnpflege, traditionelle Medizin, Wahrsagerei, Predigt und Henna-Tätowierung; Wassertragen, Obst und traditionelle Lebensmittel. Darüber hinaus kann man viele Aufführungen von Geschichtenerzählern, Dichtern, Berbermusikern (Imazighen), Gnaoua-Tänzern genießen.
Die Koutoubia-Moschee ist eines der beeindruckendsten Denkmäler in Marrakesch und eine der schönsten Moscheen Marokkos. Gekennzeichnet durch eine komplexe Geschichte; es ist eigentlich ein Doppelheiligtum mit einem Minarett. Die erste Koutoubia wurde 1157 eingeweiht und die zweite und das Minarett wurden ein Jahr später im Auftrag von Abdelmoumen gebaut. Die beiden Heiligtümer zeichnen sich durch ihren innovativen Plan aus, der Ihnen eine kapitale Bedeutung für die Wand der Qibla (Orientierung des Gebets) verleiht. Das Minarett aus Stein mit einer Höhe von 77 m markiert die Landschaft seiner Präsenz und ermöglicht die Nutzung einer Rampe, um seinen Gipfel zu erreichen. Bahia Palace ist ein Gebäude aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, bestehend aus Zimmern mit atemberaubenden Stuckarbeiten, Gemälden und Mosaiken Palast und einer Reihe von Gärten. Der Bahia-Palast sollte der größte Palast seiner Zeit sein. Der Name des Bahia-Palastes bedeutet auf Arabisch „Glanz“. Wie in anderen Gebäuden der Zeit in anderen Ländern sollte es das Wesen des islamischen und marokkanischen Stils einfangen. Im Bahia-Palast gibt es einen 8.000 m2 großen Garten mit Zimmern, die zu Innenhöfen führen. Der Bahia-Palast wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts von Si Moussa, dem Großwesir des Sultans, für seinen persönlichen Gebrauch eingerichtet, der Bahia-Palast sollte den Namen einer seiner Frauen tragen. Hier der Harem, der einen weitläufigen Hof mit einem zentralen Becken umfasst und von Räumen für die Konkubinen umgeben ist. Als der schwarze Sklave Abu Ahmed gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zu Macht und Reichtum aufstieg, ließ er den Bahia-Palast errichten, indem er Handwerker aus Fès hinzuzog. Eintritt ist: 100MAD für jeden (10 Euro)
Die Ben Youssef Madrasa ist eine der größten und schönsten Ikonen der andalusisch-berberischen Architektur in Marokko. Gegründet von Sultan Abou al Hasan im 14. Jahrhundert, wurde es anschließend von der Saadi-Dynastie wieder aufgebaut und bereichert. Das Ergebnis ist das noch extravaganter dekorierte Denkmal, das neben der Ben-Youssef-Moschee in Marrakesch steht. Heute ein Museum, die ehemalige Madrasa hat 130 Zellen gebaut, um die fast 900 Studenten unterzubringen, die den Koran und andere Wissenschaft und religiöse Fächer hier studierten. This was a great tour. We saw all of major sites and souks in the Medina. Our guide was wonderful and very knowledgeable. He even got us into a rooftop restaurant that we couldn’t get in. I would definitely recommend this tour to everybody.

Ahmed was well versed with the history of Morocco. We liked that he gave us the option of the places we wanted to visit and we were able to skip the queue as he was an official tour guide. We learned about the origin of the words and the cultural changes over the past dynasties up until the most recent updates with the architecture and politics. We also got guidance with navigation within the souks by showing us how it used to be categorised. He helped us take photos as we go along our tour and finally lead us to a reasonably priced restaurant within the city square.

The tour was educational and informative. Tour guide Said is very knowledgeable. He thoroughly guided us through the maze-like alleys and was able to help with shopping for original items vs knock-offs. Clarification is needed on entry fees to the historical sites. While booking app indicated entry tickets were included in the tours, it turns out clients have to pay admission fees in some places. Otherwise, it was good morning tour to set the pace for the rest of the day. Beware of the usual tourist traps where clients are ushered into rest places where it turns into unexpected shopping up sells.
