Amazing experience to wander through the very old alleyways/roads with the history seeping through every corner. Admission fees to the Jewish cemetery and museum were not included in the price but were very cheap. Youssefs knowledge of both Moroccan and Jewish history was superb. We were very fortunate as being the only two on the tour so we could personalise it which yousseff then added extra stops so we could ask even more questions and therefore made more stops meeting the local residents.
Extremely worthwhile. Youssef was personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. He even walked us to a location for a late lunch after the tour near our riad and brought us to a rug factory, where I spent more money than I should have.
So informative and interesting guide was so knowledgeable and kind!
Highly recommend this tour. Informative & inspiring. Our guide, Yousef, was incredibly knowledgeable. We were able to even visit the grave of a friend's grandfather. It is one thing to read about something & entirely different to walk the same streets of history.
We really enjoyed this tour, and recommend it for anyone interested in the Jewish history of Marrakech, as well as the Medina and Mellah in general. Lahcen was a fun and dynamic tour guide - never a dull moment! He showed us some pretty amazing sites and was patient when we wanted to spend longer in one place. The tour included the synagogue (with a museum inside), the cemetery (restored in recent years), the mellah and the medina. We would highly recommend this tour!
Our guide Youssef was phenomenal. Helped my wife better understand her Moroccan Jewish heritage and even found her great great grandfather’s resting place. Cannot recommend enough
Very interesting tour with a fantastic guide! Of an irreproachable education, sympathy and kindness. Knowledge of local culture and excellent speaker. One of our friends may not be present because she is ill and the company had the kindness to question her health again and offer help if necessary. They also allowed a time change that we had requested a few days earlier. Thank you for everything! Sonia, Ana, Margarida, Michaela, Sandra, Margarida and Joana
Youssef was an extremely professional, knowledgeable and thoughtful tour guide. We were impressed with his knowledge of not only of the history of Moroccan Jews but his excellent English and some fluency in Hebrew.
Tahoe was very knowledgeable and friendly. A joy to tour with!! Highly recommend!!
We crossed the medina, then we arrived at the mellah, which is the old Jewish quarter. We visited the Jewish cemetery where there are 20,000 graves and also graves of great rabbis and it is really very impressive. Note that the Cohens are buried separately at the entrance to the cemetery and their graves are painted blue. Then we visited the old synagogue which despite the recent earthquake is in excellent condition. Our guide was named Youssef and he explained precisely how the first Jews arrived in Magrebh, after the destruction of the first temple and their expulsion from Israel. Then the different waves of arrivals over the centuries; up to twenty thousand. I recommend this guide who is really very friendly, he speaks perfect French and took his time to explain everything in detail during the visit and our pilgrimage to the medina, the mellah and all other places.
