Our experience with Maria Rita was authentic Sicilian. The market experience was wonderful! The vendors and all of their fare were beautiful. Maria Rita was an exemplary instructor as well as entertaining. The group was the perfect size and we enjoyed interacting with them. The pistachio pesto, caponata, and tiramisu were molto delizioso! We will be trying to replicate these at home. I highly recommend this experience!
We always book cooking classes when we travel because it’s a great and fun way to learn and truly experience local cuisine, and we had an unbelievable time with Maria. She took us to a local market where we bought fruits, vegetables and seafood, and then went to her apartment where we made different pasta, sauces, salad, sardine rolls and grilled octopus. We then enjoyed it all with a bottle of wine for lunch. Maria was an amazing teacher and chef, and made us feel at home. We absolutely recommend everyone try this experience with her.
Gilda was wonderful, very welcoming and fun. We prepared a fantastic meal, and enjoyed her company very much. From the moment we met her in the market until we were too full to walk, she took excellent care of and became like part of our family.
My husband and two adult children recently did this private tour with Vincenza and it was better than we could have ever imagined! Whether you are a true foodie, or just someone interested in seeing the local food market from how to buy to how to cook, this tour is incredible! Experiencing the day with our guide Vincenza was like being with family. She explained everything to us. We left knowing so much more about the Siracusa community- the tastes, the people, the food preparation and most of all, the true food of Siracusa. What a great tour!! Don’t hesitate, as it is so much more than a cooking class! Thank you Vincenza!!!!
This excursion was conducted exactly as promised. We had a short walk from our ship to our host's apartment. She kindly offered us espresso. After coffee we took a short walk to a corner market for spices. Next we went to the open air market for a few olives, salami, and vegetables. Our host generously treated one member of our party to a bar of handmade aloe soap to sooth a sunburn. Next we returned to the apartment to have antipasto, make pizzas, a vegetable tart, homemade pasta, and an incredible chocolate couscous pastry. We enjoyed the meal together with our host and her husband. The table was beautiful and the company was lovely. It was a fabulous excursion that I can easily recommend.
Gilda brought an authentic Sicilian experience to life for us. We went to market with her while she expertly selected the items we would need for our menu. It was then a short drive to her house where we helped her to prepare four dishes for lunch using the ingredients. We were able to create Pasta with Swordfish, caponata, a wonderful courgette (zucchini) flower frittata and Bianco Mangiare an almond milk dessert. Gilda is passionate about cooking and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. Meeting her dogs and husband was a bonus.
We spent an unforgettable day with Gilda. After shopping together at the market, we prepared the dishes with love. Gilda told us so many interesting things about the Sicilian cuisine. She was so incredibly hospitable that we felt at home! We would return anytime and recommend the cooking class to everyone (regardless of age)! Warm Regards Andrey & Morena.
Rosalba was an excellent guide, tutor and hostess. She has no English but that was no problem with the help, where necessary, of translation tools. My wife (and I) learned some secrets of Sicilian cooking, and finished with a lovely lunch. Thanks, Rosalba for having us in your home.
I had a wonderful time visiting artesian shops to buy local ingredients then cooking them with Emanuela, we made pasta by hand a simple but delicious tomato garlic and Basel sauce. Emanuela also made a Tiramisu for dessert, it was lovely spending time with Emanuela and her husband in their home, where I was made so welcome. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn traditional food preparation and be involved in a real Sicilian family lunch. In my opinion Emanuela went above and beyond my expectation.
During the market tour, it was great fun to learn particularly about certain spices and types of fish and cheeses not typically seen in the United States as well as how to use them. The cooking portion of the day would have been worth it just for the tips about how to make a tomato sauce that my friend and I will make great use of it in our own cooking. Teresa was a warm and gracious host as well as an excellent cook and patient teacher. The time we spent with her greatly added to our appreciation of Sicily and its local culture. Anyone who enjoys cooking should not miss this experience. It will definitely be a highlight of their trip that they will happily share with friends and family.
