Sie können ganz einfach einen ganzen Tag damit verbringen, Kanchipuram und Mamallapurams wunderbare Tempel, Höhlen und Felszeichnungen zu erkunden. Die meisten wurden während der Herrschaft des Pallava-Königs Narasimhavarman I aus dem 7. Jahrhundert geschnitzt, dessen Spitzname Mamalla (Großer Ringer) der Stadt ihren Namen gab. Offizielle archäologische Umfragen in Indien können an Standorten gemietet werden.

Von den fünf Shiva-Tempeln Südindiens, die mit den fünf Elementen verbunden sind, ist dieser 12 Hektar große Bezirk der Schrein der Erde. Sie treten unter dem 59 m hohen, unbemalten Südgopuram ein, dessen lebhafte Schnitzereien 1509 unter der Herrschaft von Vijayanagar gemeißelt wurden. Im Inneren führt links eine Säulenhalle in das zentrale Gelände, dem Nandi von rechts zugewandt ist. Das innere Heiligtum (nur Hindus) enthält einen Lingam aus Erde und eine Spiegelkammer, deren zentrales Shiva-Bild sich in endloser Wiederholung widerspiegelt.
Wir werden den herrlichen Tempel des Kailasanathar-Tempels aus Pallava-Zeiten besuchen. Kanchipuram war die Hauptstadt des mittelalterlichen südindischen Königreichs Pallavas. Die Pallavas waren maßgeblich am Übergang von Felsarchitektur zu Steintempeln beteiligt. Wir werden diese architektonischen Wunder schätzen, die in 600 n. Chr. Gebaut wurden.
Die fünf Rathas, die sich am südlichen Ende von Mamallapuram zusammengekauert hatten, waren erstaunlicherweise alle aus einzelnen großen Felsen geschnitzt. Jeder dieser schönen Tempel aus dem 7. Jahrhundert war einem hinduistischen Gott geweiht und ist jetzt nach einem oder mehreren der Pandavas, den fünf Heldenbrüdern des epischen Mahabharata oder ihrer gemeinsamen Frau, Draupadi, benannt. Die Rathas waren im Sand versteckt, bis sie vor 200 Jahren von den Briten ausgegraben wurden. Ratha ist Sanskrit für "Wagen" und kann sich auf die Form des Tempels oder auf ihre Funktion als Vehikel für die Götter beziehen. Man nimmt an, dass sie ursprünglich nicht als Orte der Anbetung dienten, sondern als Architekturmodelle.
Wir besuchen auch Arjuna´s Penance, ein 100 x 45 Fuß großes Relief, in dem ein ganzes Meisterwerk aus dem Mahabharata-Epos geschnitzt wurde.
Der nächste Halt ist bei Krishna’s Butterball, einem merkwürdigen Anblick eines kugelförmigen Felsblocks mit einem Durchmesser von 5 Metern, der prekär an einem Hang liegt und Newtons Schweregesetzen trotzt!
Der zweitürmige Shore-Tempel steht wie eine prächtige, von Felsen geschliffene Eleganz mit Blick auf das Meer, umgeben von Gärten und zerstörten Höfen. Er symbolisiert die Höhen der Pallava-Architektur und die maritimen Ambitionen der Pallava-Könige. Seine geringe Größe lässt den hervorragenden Anteil und die überragende Qualität der Schnitzereien vermuten, von denen viele inzwischen zu vage impressionistischen Verzierungen erodiert wurden. Er wurde im 8. Jahrhundert unter Narasimhavarman II erbaut und ist der älteste bedeutende freistehende Steintempel in Tamil Nadu.

They were very resourceful and made the trip fun! I thought it would be good if I wanted to travel around with peace of mind, such as traveling alone for the first time for women in India. Maybe some buses if we can get away.
