Auf unserer Reise zu den Orten in A Christmas Carol werden wir einige andere Sehenswürdigkeiten von Dickens sehen. Lassen Sie uns die Gegend erkunden, in der Dicken als Junior Clerk gearbeitet hat. Er ließ sich von den mysteriösen Inns of Court inspirieren, die später zu David Copperfield, Great Expectations und Martin Chuzzlewit führten.
Eine Taverne mit Kellern aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Dieser Pub war ein Treffpunkt von Dickens und ein Treffpunkt für den Hellfire Club. David Copperfield trinkt hier im gleichnamigen Roman. Sollen wir uns am Feuer ausruhen und uns mit Glühwein aufwärmen?
Gleich neben der Bank of England, der Royal Exchange, führt der Geist der Weihnacht, der noch kommt, Scrooge zu seinen Kollegen, um seine Beerdigung zu besprechen. Die Schritte der Börse sind der traditionelle Ort, an dem königliche Ankündigungen gemacht werden. Heute können Sie das Parkett überqueren, aber die Bankiers sind längst vorbei. Jetzt ziehen Designerläden und Champagner-Bars die Aufmerksamkeit der Besucher auf sich.
Verlassen wir den ausgetretenen Pfad und begeben uns in die Welt von Ebeneezer Scrooge und 'A Christmas Carol', während wir Scrooges Counting House besuchen, den Ort, an dem er am Weihnachtsabend zu Abend gegessen hat, und Charles Dickens Lieblings-Chop House, den George und Vulture. Wenn Dickens auf dieser Tour mit uns wäre, könnte er zu George und Vulture gehen, seinen Lieblingstisch finden und sogar sein Lieblingsessen bestellen. Nicht viel hat sich geändert. Diese stimmungsvolle alte Taverne war der Treffpunkt des Pickwick Clubs und wird in den Pickwick Papers über 20 Mal erwähnt. Die ebenfalls unveränderte Taverne um die Ecke, Simpsons, ist höchstwahrscheinlich Scrooges Lieblingsessenort. Ihr Guide wird erklären warum!
Eines der Lieblingsrestaurants von Charles Dickens und Chop Houses. Hier trafen sich Herr Pickwick und sein berühmter Club. Wie auch der berüchtigte Hellfire Club. Das Innere dieses schönen Hauses ist seit Dickens unverändert.
War das Scrooges Dismal Tavern?
In den letzten Jahren wurde dieser schöne Markt in den Harry Potter Filmen verwendet. Aber Charles Dickens benutzte diesen Ort in A Christmas Carol. Hier schickte Scrooge den Jungen, um die größte Türkei am Weihnachtsmorgen abzuholen, als er als reformierter Mann aufwachte.

What a delightful tour. Richard was an outstanding guide and shared a wealth of information about Dickens and his life in London. A Christmas Carol came to life as he wove the story together with actual London sites. Great tour especially at Christmas time. The tour time was a bit longer than noted only because Richard took the time to stop if people on the tour needed a quick break or wanted to stop for photos at one of the iconic phonebooths. And the old church/now turned into a coffee house was quite an interesting place for a quick break as well as Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Pub! Highly recommend this tour for a most interesting tour of old London.

Amazing tour and Richard was phenomenal in his storytelling. Taking the time to set the table and bring everything together was simply wonderful. He took us to different places that we would have never known or seen on our own. You don’t have to be a fan of Dickens to appreciate this tour. I am a fan, especially of A Christmas Carol. What even made it better was Richard talked about certain aspects of the story and showed how each place chosen for the tour was unique. It was almost like a treasure hunt! I’ve taken walking tours before, but this one was the best! Take the tour, learn about the history and culture behind the stories. SO MUCH FUN! Richard I do hope you will be on YouTube! Oh, one more thing…he showed a bonus site for the series Slow Horses! We love that show!
