Great market tour and cooking class

Fun cooking class in San Sebastian. We started with a market tour and food shopping. We also tried some pintxos at a local bar. Finally we got back and cooked our lunch. Instructor is funny and helpful. Great facilities. I only hoped that they have a decanter for the wine that we brought.

The best cooking school and classes in Spain

A must if you are in San Sebastián and want to discover the real Basque kitchen with local Basque chefs. I came to the school with my tour group and we had an incredible time. A 5 star experience was the resounding review from everyone. From the welcoming coffee, the explanation of the school to the interactive market tour and shopping for local ingredients, this is a stand out experience that you must try. Professional, friendly and informative the class was excellently presented with a selection of high quality dishes, ingredients and cooking facilities. Definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to go beyond the touristy aspects to San Sebastián.

Pick your ingredients at the market to cooking with a local chef, this is your chance to learn about Basque cuisine

This is a fantastic course to get to know Baque cuisine and how to cook it. Patricio, our chef teacher, is a local with our 25 years of experience in Basque Cooking. We started with a trip to the local markets to pick up our ingredients. Then headed back to the kitchens to prep and cook. First up was learning how to clean and gut anchovies for the grill. Then learning how to torch tomatoes to remove their skin, WITHOUT making them soft. Finally we had to undo bad knife handling habits cutting the tomatoes into very small dice. Off to the grill, using a small Komodo. Learning how to get the charcoal lit also showed us that we need a bigger torch when we get home! Finally the food was cooked (anchovies, grouper, mussels and clams), wine was served (a Basque local white wine) and all disappeared quickly. Dessert was a homemade cheese, similar to pana cotta, served with walnuts and truffle flavored honey (a new one for us). Patricio speaks excellent English so don't let language be a concern. Learn some Basque culinary skills!!

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed discovering Basque cuisine from market to table. Visiting local markets, selecting seasonal ingredients and then transforming them into traditional dishes alongside a local chef is one of the aspects that makes this culinary experience so special. Patricio will be delighted to read your comments. Sharing not only recipes but also techniques, local traditions and the philosophy behind Basque cooking is something he is deeply passionate about. From preparing fresh seafood to learning the small details that elevate simple ingredients, our goal is to give guests a genuine understanding of the region’s food culture. We’re especially happy that you left with new skills, new ideas and a deeper connection to Basque gastronomy. Thank you for spending the day with us in San Sebastián, and we hope to cook together again someday. The Mimo Team

Too much fun! Grown up playtime at MIMO Bite the Experience!

Fun, fun, fun with the dynamic MIMO staff and guests. A memorable full day experience in the market, in the Parte Vieja for a pintxo and cider and then back to the MIMO kitchen for a joyful day of cooking and sharing and eating! We went with two friends but left with many more! And yes, we got to make the famous Basque cheesecake-with a twist!

Thank you so much for such a joyful review. We absolutely loved reading your description of the experience — “grown up playtime” may honestly be one of our favorite ways anyone has ever described a day at Mimo. That combination of discovering local markets, sharing pintxos and Basque cider in the Parte Vieja, cooking together and gathering around the table afterwards is exactly the atmosphere we hope to create in our culinary experiences in San Sebastián. One of the most special parts for us is seeing guests arrive as strangers and leave feeling connected through food, conversation and shared experiences. And of course, we’re very happy the Basque cheesecake — with its little twist — became part of the memory as well. Thank you again for spending the day with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Donostia for more cooking, wine and laughter in the future. The Mimo Team

Best cooking class we’ve ever taken - amazing hospitality and knowledge

Incredible! We love taking cooking classes when we travel because it’s a fun and interesting way to connect with people and culture - plus we love to cook. This was the best class we’ve ever taken. Many others have been excellent but this one was somehow accessible for all levels of cooks while also being deeply informative into technique and the reasons why the recipes work. They were so open, kind and always friendly - never tired or annoyed with dumb or repeated questions. The kitchen is gorgeous and there’s every kind of device, cookbook and spice. You’ll learn so much - specific amazing and delicious recipes but also techniques to cooking better in general. And the food was amazing! They are true chefs and true teachers and true masters of both cooking and hospitality. It may seem expensive but it is so worth it!

Thank you so much for your kind words — it really means a lot to us. We’re glad you enjoyed the experience and that the class felt both fun and insightful. Sharing our passion for cooking and hospitality is what we love most. Hope to cook together again soon!

Great morning cooking our classic Spanish lunch

Brilliant morning at our Cooking Class, cooking with Eneko. Three of us with him, a great experience. A lot of laughs, information and tips pouring out of him. His dissection of the squid was an education in itself. The lunch we made was excellent. Crema Catalana (better than Gazpacho), Paella Valenciana and Fideua. Fanatastic - many thanks Eneko

San Sebastian always more, Mimo never again!

I attended this traditional Basque cooking course together with 5 people from USA. U.S. The language was English, with some comments in Spanish. The description of the traditional Basque cooking course on the Mimo website included the following menu: Talos with Txistorra Mushroom scrambled Marmitako -Chop with piquillo peppers Mommy. The following changes from the one published in my cooking class were: Instead of scrambling mushrooms a cold mixture of fish prepared with prawns, prepared by the chef with the large kitchen mixer. - Cancellation without alternative of Marmitako ("the traditional Basque dish by antonomasia") The reason: It wasn't tuna season, the chef said. "An unbelievable menu to prepare to enjoy." There were few activities for students: 10 minutes per person for 5 hours: - prepare the beads, fry them, cut and fry the txistorra - fry the shrimp through the mixture - fry the peppers and peppers of the piquillo (tin!) Cut the chop. Chef grilled it on a big grill - Heat sheep's milk, decorate the mammies In short, it was not a cooking class with activities, no recipes for cooking and take home, but an unwanted talk in English at a very high price: E 230! San Sebastian always more, Mimo never again!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations and would like to clarify a few important points. First, regarding the language: Our classes are cooking classes, not language classes. However, it is essential that all participants are able to follow the explanations properly. In the session you attended, 5 out of the 6 participants spoke only English. The chef addressed you personally in Spanish whenever appropriate, but out of courtesy to the rest of the group and in order to maintain a smooth pace for the class, the general explanations were given mainly in English. Regarding the menu: As clearly stated on our website, the menu shown is a sample menu, an example of what could be cooked during the class. We work exclusively with fresh, seasonal products, which means the menu must be adapted to what is available at the market at that time. Marmitako is a traditional dish made with bonito tuna, which is only available in the Basque Country during the summer season. For this reason, it was replaced that day by txangurro a la donostiarra, one of the most representative recipes of Basque cuisine and of San Sebastián. The final menu included five dishes, exactly as shown in the sample menu: Talo with txistorra Gernika peppers Txangurro a la donostiarra Txuleta (Basque-style steak)with Piquillo peppers Mamia Regarding the hands-on nature of the class: One of the aspects most frequently highlighted by our guests is precisely how practical and participatory our classes are, which is why we were surprised by your comment. That said, we do take your feedback into account as part of our ongoing improvement process. Regarding the recipes. The recipes were sent by email on the same day to all participants who completed the consent form required to comply with current regulations. If you did not receive them, a simple email to our reservations team would have been enough, and we would have gladly sent them to you. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, but we appreciate your visit and your comments. We are glad to know that you will continue enjoying San Sebastián, and we wish you a wonderful stay in the city.

A Great Day

Great day. We did the fish cookery course and had a trip to the local market before coming back to prepare, cook and eat or fish. There was only 3 on the course which meant we all got a chance to practice a lot of the skills.

MIMO a MUST in San Sebastian

This was our 2nd trip to the Mimo 1 day cooking class and it yet again exceeded our expectations. From the state of the art kitchen and cooking area to the freshest local ingredients the experience was second to none. What made the day extra special were our hosts; Patricio, Eneko and Lara. Their warmth, knowledge and desire for the guests to have a great time made you feel a real part of the team. They were always engaging and answered questions, provided direction and gave us tips that we will use when we get home. Preparing the dishes you later were able to eat gave one a real sense of accomplishment. From hake cheeks to a home made taco with chorizo and seared tuna there was something that would appeal to everyone's palate. For anyone heading to San Sebastian a day at Mimo is a must. We will be back!

Even Better than Expected (which was already a lot)

My neighbors highly recommended taking the class while visiting San Sebastian, and they weren't wrong. Had an amazing day in the market and class with Chef Patricio -- he was a combination of knowledgable, kind, and funny. He really gets into the "why" of the choices made in Basque cooking, and we made dishes that I'd never tried before. I learned quite a bit, ate really well, and had a lot of fun with my classmates. Eskerrik asko! Looking forward to cooking with you again.
