Pleasant visit
We reached the castle by walking through the surrounding woods. The walk is not particularly long but quite challenging because it is uphill with an unexpected steepness. We bought the tickets and then we entered the castle which features various rooms and exhibits, some more interesting than others. The castle was pleasant to visit, there are no period furnishings but from the tower you can enjoy an excellent view of the whole city. The only downside, the restrooms are paid. Worth visiting if you want to visit the city.

Wouldn’t bother going in , just visit grounds .
Castle lovely from outside , great views .
What a lot of people were talking about though wasn’t the castle but the charge for toilets .
Understandably when you’ve paid entrance , you’ve paid tourist tax and then this . Wasn’t even working with phones , people getting charged and not getting in . Total shambles to me honest . Saw a family of 5 having to pay 5 euros . Disgraceful .

Regarding the restroom facilities, while one of the restrooms has a €1 usage fee, this amount can be redeemed as a voucher in the Friderik Castle Shop. In addition, there are two other restrooms available free of charge within the castle complex.

Not worth going inside.
A bit chaotic and so modernised inside it lost all its character. There was a random cartoon projection show in an old hall which was very odd. We had the audio tour which was dull and we gave up half way round. The most exciting thing was a huge thunderstorm when we were up the tower. Otherwise not really worth going inside.

Gem of Ljubljana old town
This is the key attraction atop a hill in old town Ljubljana. You can take the funicular to get here and then take the audio guide which gives you enough history about the place. This is a well maintained castle and gives you a good perspective about the history and key personalities who built and inhabited the castle over the years.

Castle with exhibitions
Interesting visit with a truly spectacular view from the tower. Also, there is a funicular ride that is worth it.

Disappointment, it's not worth it
I confirm 100% what others have written, namely that it is absolutely not worth spending 19 euros to visit the castle, when for 6 euros you can go up and down with the funicular and access the courtyard and the outer walls from which you can enjoy an excellent view of Ljubljana and its surroundings and take great photos. Obviously, you cannot access the tower, which is only a few meters higher than the walls anyway, or visit the puppet museum, but I think you can do without it.
Final verdict: disappointing place, modern and vaguely fake. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with a historic castle.

You can go up to the castle by funicular. Price 6€ for round trip and tour of the castle exterior only. The view of the city is a bit disappointing but the structure itself is pleasant
