No commentary, very short circular trip and rather rude staff. I hadn't been on the ferry for 20+ years before this and won't be hurrying back.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m sorry your recent ferry trip fell short of what you expected. We provide sightseeing commentary through a digital audio guide that passengers can access by scanning a QR code on board and listening via their own phones. There is no app to download, and the process uses only a small amount of mobile data. For those who prefer not to use their phones, we also offer free printed sightseeing guides and route maps, available to collect from our ticket desk. This approach is advertised as part of the cruise experience and is designed to give visitors the choice of whether or not they wish to hear commentary. The cruise lasts approximately 50 minutes and includes a short stop on the Wirral side of the river, with views of the Liverpool waterfront and docks throughout the journey. I’m also sorry to hear about your experience with our team at Mersey Ferries. We take this feedback seriously and will share your comments with our operational and training teams for review.
It was a fun experience. I felt sad that there was no alternative to earphones as we forgot these. Most London cruises give information on a loud speaker. But they did warn us so it's our own fault for forgetting! It also assumes you have data which is tough for children and visitors. Anyway, we are glad we did it, and the fact it's a fun, painted ship added to the experience.
Thanks for the review. We are pleased to hear you had a fun experience. The audio guide only requires a small amount of data to download the guide to your phone. It can then work offline during the trip. We also have free sightseeing guides/routes maps available from our ticket desk.
A very authentic feel to this trip aboard the good ship ‘Everybody Razzle Dazzle’ with great views of the highlight sights of the Mersey estuary. No in-person guiding but an informative commentary available for download on a smartphone, ideally with headphones or earbuds available. We felt that the commentary would have been more accessible if broadcast over the ship’s PA system.
Thanks for the positive review. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the fantastic views of the estuary and waterfront. In addition to the digital audio guide, we have free sightseeing guides/route maps available from our ticket desk in the terminal building.
Nice to have been out on the "Ferry cross the Mersey." You should quickly familiarize yourself with the functionality of the audio guide (via your own cell phone) at the beginning in order to hear all the explanations in the right places.
Thank you for your review. We recommend scanning the commentary QR code in the terminal building or on the landing stage before boarding the ferry. The digital audio guide then starts automatically using GPS positioning, so the commentary plays at the right points during your trip. Later this year, we will be adding additional language options to the audio guide to better support our overseas visitors.
Very nice ride on a newly upgraded ferry. Helped it was a gorgeous day! Smooth and a way to see the beautiful city of Liverpool.
Very good tour and value for money
Thank you for giving us 5 stars - glad you enjoyed it.
Super easy to book through get your guide Really friendly and welcoming staff It was our first time on the ferry cross the mersey and even with the drizzly weather it was really nice. Plenty of space to sit and walk around. Highly recommend
Thanks for the 5 stars - glad you had a great cruise despite the weather!
This is a ferry repurposed as a tour boat. There is also a commuter ferry service which visits the 3 docks and uses the same facilities. The tour only stops at two points, and you're free to get off on the other side and explore the New Brighton beach area, and take a later 2nd leg of the tour back. If you go in the summer (before the end of August) there is a free connecting bus service from the ferry terminal to the beach with several stops. The busses are timed to match the ferry arrivals/departures, and even though it was a drizzly day, we enjoyed going down to the beach and boardwalk and walking around for a couple of hours. The boat itself is a very nice ferry with access to several open air decks for great photos. They have a small shop set up and (of course) restrooms on board. The one downside some people mentioned is that the "tour" part with audio commentary about the sights is phone-only, and ostensibly requires headphones to listen. You'd also need a data plan on local cell service to download the audio files unless you think ahead and download in advance. It does have a written version of the tour material if you don't have headphones or prefer to read. While not perfect, this worked pretty well, and was better than trying to hear tour information on the loudspeaker over the fairly loud ferry engine. The only real complaint we had is that the tour page played annoying background music until you approached one of the tour sites, then it switched to the appropriate spoken tour. There was no way to disable the music, which made it impossible to hear anyone in your group or the spoken announcements. If the background music were eliminated it would be fine. The scenery was great, and the ferries were operated very professionally, with friendly staff. Overall a great experience we would do again in retrospect. Reasonably priced for what it is.
Thanks for such great feedback Steve, we are pleased to hear that you really enjoyed the experience and we will pass on your comments about the commentary to our operational team for consideration. Thanks for visiting us.
This was a very nice trip with good views of Liverpool from a different viewpoint. They played Gerry and the Pacemakers Ferry Across the Mersey (of course!) when we set off. Glad we did it.
Thanks for a lovely 5 star review Peter, we are glad you enjoyed the cruise and of course the song.
I visited during a busy weekday in late-August. Immaculate boat, ‘Snowdrop’. Helpful staff. Plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. Cafe selling sandwiches, snacks and hot & cold drinks. Toilets. Commentary via a QR Code (take a smartphone & headphones). A great way to view the Liverpool and Wirral skylines and learn about their history.
Thanks for a great 5 star review, we are glad that you enjoyed the whole experience, including our helpful staff. Thank you for visiting us.
