One of the characteristics of this unique ecosystem is the presence of Posidonia seagrass, which is a protected marine plant. While it may not always look appealing, it plays a vital role in protecting the coastline from erosion and supporting marine biodiversity. Regarding your comments about there being "nothing to do," we'd like to clarify that visitors can explore several natural and educational attractions on the island. These include visiting the Sea Turtle Conservation Association's office to learn about their important work, seeing the protected sea turtle nesting areas (during the nesting season), following the hiking trail to the island's salt lake, discovering the historic ruins on the opposite side of the island, and snorkeling around the old harbour, where the underwater scenery is particularly interesting. We also share your concern about litter. Unfortunately, despite ongoing conservation efforts and regular clean-up initiatives, waste left behind by some visitors can occasionally affect the environment. Protecting the islands is a shared responsibility, and we continue to support initiatives that preserve this exceptional natural site.
