Kunsthaus Graz-Eintrittskarte für das Museum

The building, very particular and in great contrast to the surrounding buildings, was inaugurated in 2003, the year Graz was European Capital of Culture. On the ground floor there is a shop and a bar while the exhibition area is on the upper floors. Very nice view from the top floor. There are not many works hosted, but we found the structure interesting.

A beautiful place, wasted with an exhibition on the water very poor in ideas and content: a real mortal boredom. To be avoided.

Went to Graz in October - had the art museum on our to-do list. It is certainly an 'interesting' building, which looks quite spectacular at night, but it seems totally out of kilter with the baroque churches and fine old squares that characterise Graz, a beautiful Habsburg city - a matter of taste (or lack of...) I guess. The cafe was great - a jolly place full of students - the actual art museum less so, the main problem being the paucity of any actual art! There were a few 'interesting' exhibits on one floor (see photos), with the usual incomprehensible explanatory plaques (either in English or auf Deutch...), but the rest of the place looked to be a 'work in progress'! Nice views of Graz from an upper gallery though. If planning a visit, I would certainly wait until there is 'something on' in terms of an exhibition. It is certainly not like the great art museums we have visited fairly recently in say, Strasbourg, Cologne or Lisbon.

Very modern Museum on the river bank. Houses temporary exhibitions on two floors accessible via moving ramps. One of the exhibitions focused on voices and noises . An other one on political power. In the latter there was a tryptic video of a grand mother and her two very young grand daughters reading aloud together the Karl Marx Das Kapital book. Absolutely hilarious.

I visited Kunsthaus Graz today and saw the Voice exhibition (don’t remember the full name) among other exhibitions, an experience I won’t forget soon. The building itself is already surreal, like a blue heart resting in the middle of Graz. Inside, the exhibition about voice was strange, a bit eerie even. Dark rooms, whispered sounds, disembodied voices, it felt like the art was speaking to me, or maybe through me. Some moments were unsettling, others deeply moving. Not your usual gallery visit, but that’s what made it so interesting.

One of the most interesting buildings in the city, very close to the historical center. There are always multiple art galleries or exhibitions and they change time to time. When we visited, we saw Camera Austria - Destroying Photography, Poetics of Power and 24/7 Work Between Meaning and Imbalance. The entrance price is fair. The visiting duration would change from person to person but on average I would say 1-1.5 hours.

Great exhibitions and something for everyone. I went here with some friends and everyone enjoyed it. It is great that it is included in the year ticket and at a great price for students.

Is that all our elite can do? Shame on you. After all, it is a sign of the decline of a civilization. Incidentally, 4 million public funds are burned.

Since I wasn’t in Graz with my friends for long we just wanted to look at the most necessary and we thought this was a good option for us. However, we could have used our time a lot better than looking at some hard-to-interpret artwork. The entrance fee is also a lot too high.

It is not uncommon for me to visit museums in different parts of the world and there is always a rough correspondence between the location of the museum and its display. For example, I do not expect to see in the ethnographic museum in Cetinje (Montenegro) what can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art in New York or the Prado Museum in Madrid. But what do I mean? The fact is that Kunsthaus is in the heart of Graz, Austria's second largest city, which claims to be the European Capital of Culture. The museum building itself is a challenge to everything that surrounds it and fascinates the imagination with its architecture against the backdrop of classic castles and palaces. With great enthusiasm and hope, I purchased a ticket and spent a long time trying to find something new or at least interesting among the museum's exhibits, but alas and ah. The exhibition was more like a student exhibition at the youth palace in Nizhny Tagil. I'm sure it would look a lot more organic in Nizhny Tagil. To sum up, I can only recommend touring the museum outside and eating downstairs at the cafe, which has nice coffee and salads.
