We had a marvelous time on the market tour and cooking with Junghee. It was our first day in Seoul and this experience made for a great introduction to different foods, cultural history, and a little bit of language. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it!
This was a super fun way to spend a few hours cooking and learning more about the Korean culture. I highly recommend.
Sarah was amazing! She was so interesting, engaging, organized and fun!! We loved the market tour and the food we cooked was terrific!!! We would definitely do this class again and strongly recommend it!!!
Traveling with my 20-something year old daughters, this experience was one of our favorites. Junghee is a delightfully warm and funny chef. The tour through the market was interesting as Junghee pointed out things like giant spring onions and how sesame seeds are toasted. We prepared Korean dishes from scratch and then enjoyed our meals together with the other participants. The Korean pancake was my favorite, daughters liked the bibimbap, everything was delicious! This was a highlight of our trip; highly recommend!
down to earth, incredibly welcoming and making everyone feel safe. very hospitable and was easy to communicate with, and even giving out recs to other places! would 100% book again and felt like i was being immersed in korea.
Junghee’s k-cooking class was so much fun and our whole family including my two teenage children enjoyed themselves a lot! She is super friendly and energetic, and made the class a very lively session. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing! My friends and I were able to make amazing food and we loved the market tour! Junghee was so sweet and taught very well. I would 100% recommend her if are interested!
Jonji (I’m so sorry if I butchered the spelling!!) was an absolutely incredible, amazing host. Absolutely no notes, 10/10 experience I would wholeheartedly recommend this for absolutely anyone visiting Seoul (or even locals!! She’s amazing!!) Myself and 4 of my friends travelled to Seoul this June and felt that the main thing we wanted to do was experience some real Korean food and meet Korean people in a natural, casual environment. Jonji was the perfect match. She met us at the subway station near her home and from the get-go she was a bubbly, entertaining, enthusiastic extrovert who went straight to work at helping us all feel comfortable with each other - there were a few other couples with us to make a total group of 10. We had wanted to avoid the “professional tour guide” vibe and this was perfect for us as Jonji led us straight to the markets to pick up some ingredients for dinner. She showed us around her local market, picking up some “honeydew apples”, showing us some tteokbokki and even introducing us to some of the local vendors! The trip around the market was a really friendly introduction to Jonji and Korean food shopping while also being hugely informative. She showed us various exotic foods - like live octopus and cuttlefish - and with each one, she would accompany personal anecdotes about what food meant to her, her favourite memories of food, and what it was like to live in Seoul. She told us about making kimchi with her grandmother, explained how various fermented ingredients used to be prepared historically versus today and even taught us how to order doughnuts in korean!! Throughout the walk through the markets, we really felt Junji’s passion for her city and her country and culture and most of all - how much she wanted to share it and show it off to us. Eventually, we finished up with the markets and she led us into her home, where she had set up a 10-station kitchen to lead us through cooking Bibimbap, some soup, some traditional Korean pancakes and a few other dishes. She gave us rice wine, had us using mortar and pestle to grind ingredients by hand and each of us made our own dinners with our own special spin on it. Throughout the day, she continued to regale us with stories about her country, her life, some personal details about her own life story and made it by far the most memorable and enjoyable experience we’ve done so far in Seoul. I really can’t express enough the sheer enthusiasm with which she conducts her business. She is a very impressive lady who clearly LOVES her job and in the end we felt like we’d made a friend out of the experience. Her energy is just infectious. Afterward, we’ve stayed in contact with her through our trip and she’s been absolutely fantastic for recommendations for other things to do around Seoul - we’re taking her recommendation tonight for a Korean BBQ!! All round, I cannot recommend this experience enough. Thank you Jonji for an amazing day!!!!
Amazing experience! We learned a lot more about Korean food and culture than you ever could in a museum... And also how to cook a really delicious meal :) Organisationen was perfect, highly recommend!
This was so much fun! Junghee does such an amazing job with this experience. From the walk through the Mangwon market to learning some Korean phrases and history, this was so much more than just a cooking class. As first-timers to South Korea, this was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and feel immersed in the culture. I would do this again!
