An incredibly special way to experience Sugarloaf!

Doing the "sugarloaf scramble" with Mingo was the highlight of our trip to Brazil! It's evident from the moment you meet him that he's a very experienced climber, a helpful guide, and an incredibly nice guy. This was our first time ever "climbing" (it was only a very short portion) and it was the perfect way to experience it. I would definitely agree with the description that you should be reasonably athletic if you want to do this, and I would also add that you should be comfortable with (or comfortable facing your fear of ) heights and exposure. If you're able to do it, it's a once in a lifetime experience!

For adventure seekers

Andrew was a great guide. Throughout tne entire hike and the small climbing section, he maintained a safe situation. And he shared his fun personality, too. A higlight of this hike/climb was seeing landscapes/vistas that you otherwise would miss anywhere else in the city. If I return to Rio, I would do many more climbing experiences with him in the area. You don’t NEED prior climbing or hiking experience, but it sure does help. IF you are afraid of heights or do not like “the outdoors”, then this is not the experience for you

Unforgettable Multi-Peak Climbing Adventure in Rio!

Climbing in Rio de Janeiro with Mingo and Andrew was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that far exceeded my expectations. Over the course of the trip, we tackled some of Brazil’s most iconic peaks—including Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado, Dedo de Deus, and Pico Maior—and each climb offered something uniquely spectacular. Starting with Sugarloaf, the granite face rising straight out of the ocean was both scenic and exhilarating. Climbing up with views of Rio's coastline and the city below was surreal. The climb up Corcovado, home to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, was equally awe-inspiring—combining natural beauty with cultural significance in the most incredible way. And then came the big alpine objectives—Dedo de Deus and Pico Maior in the Serra dos Órgãos. These climbs were more technical and demanding, but thanks to Mingo and Andrew’s expert guidance, I felt safe, supported, and fully in the moment. Reaching the summit of Dedo de Deus, a dramatic needle piercing the sky, was one of the most rewarding feelings I’ve ever had. And standing atop Pico Maior, the highest peak in the range, was nothing short of epic—the views were absolutely jaw-dropping. Mingo and Andrew were exceptional guides: knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Their attention to safety, encouragement, and deep understanding of the terrain made this trip both challenging and incredibly fulfilling. If you're a climber heading to Brazil, this experience is a must. From coastal crags to alpine summits, this adventure gave me everything I hoped for and more. I’ll never forget it.

Incredible hike & climb...

Incredible hike & climb with Mingo, a completely different experience than getting the cable car and really enjoyed. Amazing view points as you go up and a very rewarding experience. Mingo was great and made me feel comfortable and confident in the climb. Really appreciated and would recommend!

Excellent experience...

Excellent experience climbing Sugar Loaf with guides Mingo and Andrew. Both were extremely professional and personable, ensuring that everyone stayed safe and had a good time. I made the climb with my 15 year old son who thought the experience was great. Neither of us have any real climbing experience but enjoy hiking and with the guidance of Mingo and Andrew were able to navigate the climbing sections with relative ease. By the second half of the climb, I needed more frequent breaks to catch my breath and our guides were very accommodating with taking whatever time was needed for us all to finish and enjoy the climb. Would definitely recommend the Sugar Loaf climb and the Climb in Rio team in general for any of their tours in Rio.

A great experience with an excellent guide

Firstly, this is not simply a "challenging hike". As the description says it's a climb and you need to be physically fit so if you're not as young as you used to be and/or you've been leading a sedentary lifestyle, as I have, it will be a challenge. That said, Andrew was an excellent guide offering support and encouragement throughout the climb, we moved at a pace I was comfortable with and we took breaks as required. The views are breathtaking and if you sit calmly during a break you get to see some great wildlife, the marmosets will come quite close and we were even joined at one point by a couple of vultures who sat close by weighing up my chances of reaching the top! I reached the top, exhausted and drenched in sweat in a little over 2 hours the sense of achievement was great. A great experience with an excellent guide

Anyone Up For Climbing a Mountain?

Talk about an exhilarating experience! Climbing 396 meters (1,299 feet) to the top of SugarLoaf Mountain was truly an achievement. Mingo, my personal guide, was awesome to work with! He was patient, very knowledgeable, and I felt extremely safe with him. He knew so much about the area as well as provided historical backgrounds. This was a great personal challenge and I would do the experience in a heart beat again. Tip: The terrain was tough for a regular human being. I highly suggest wearing proper climbing clothes (pants, breathable shirt, etc.) and a very good pair of hiking shoes with excellent traction. I don't recommend running shoes. Also, bring mosquito repellent, plenty of water, and maybe a snack for a quick boost of energy.

perfect choice to experience the sugarloaf

谢谢Mingo的专业指导! 我发现这个活动很久都没有新评论了,希望我的评论能给大家一点建议。7月的里约不热也不冷,非常适合爬山。 Thanks for the experienced help with Mingo! We spent a happy afternoon with stunning view all around the trail. This is an adjustable trail which can vary depending on your physical condition so don't worry about an unexpected end of it or missing any excellent part on the rock cliff. My advice before you start is wearing shoes both reliable and unslippy. Thanks Mingo again. And I think there is no better praise than a next reservation.

Great climb and even better guide

Andrew from Texas (1 of the only 4 Andrews in Brasil) was an amazing guide. He was supportive throughout the whole session and knew when breaks were needed and when to motivate. I recommend climbing with him, and can’t wait to climb with him next year.
