Beschreibung

Caution: Very Poor Value

We booked this tour the day prior, as the other, more popular food tours had no availability. For ~280 USD each, here's what we got: We were given instructions to meet at Plaza Dorrego at 6 PM -- no other specifics were given to find our guide in this bustling plaza. We spotted another couple who were also on the tour and were equally lost, searching Plaza Dorrego hopelessly for our tour guide. We messaged the agency, and they said they had no idea what the tour guide looked like or how to identify him. After some back and forth, they were able to tell us that he would be waiting by the Starbucks. Jose, our guide, was very kind and spoke decent English but was more of a general tour guide for BA than someone passionate and knowledgeable about the food scene. He took us to a tenement building that had been repurposed as shops (we saw a man making mate cups and another store selling underwear), and another small shopping center to look at ceramic gnomes. We then went to San Telmo market, an incredible space packed with stalls and an abundance of great looking food on display. Unfortunately, the tour did not stop at any of these places but rather at an outpost of La Casa Del Dulce De Leche. You will recognize that these are popular and scattered all over BA. Here we sampled their selection of Dulce De Leches, which were already sitting out and available for all passersby to try for free! Our next stop was a wine shop where we tasted and learned about two wines: a standard Torrontes and Malbec. They gave us a bit of cheese, too. Then a van shuttled us to dinner at Revire Brasas Bravas, where we had a choice of chorizo or an empanada, followed by steak (all tough and cooked to medium well), and dessert (ice cream or tiramisu). We had the opportunity to have one drink at the dinner and were told that any additional drink we would need to purchase. Of course, we were reminded to leave a tip for the waitress as well! I am unsure why or how this tour cost $280 pp, but we did enjoy the company of the other couple, and Jose was a nice guy who was interesting enough to chat with. My advice is to book one of the other food tours well in advance!

Fodd fun

This tour was a nice ,fun evening out. It included and interesting walk around the neighborhood, a stop at a dulce de leaches store with samples, stroll through a large food market, a wine tasting and a nice meal at a local steak restaurant. The guide was interesting and fun.

Food delight

This foodie tour is fabulous. Got picked up right on schedule at our hotel followed with a short little jaunt to our first stop, the Duce de Leche store. We were able to taste a great variety of samples, helped by and with the excellent store staff. Too much choice, but we did end up taking a box of treats for our kids and grandkids. Next was the wine tasting and wine store, where we tasted the ever popular Malbec wine, Argentina’s signature wine product, as well as another white wine, called “mentirosa” wine (liar’s wine) because it’s “nose” does not match it taste. Next was the Rivere Restaurant, known for its fantastic steak and meat menus. There we were served a great meal consisting of appetizers, the main course, drinks (beer for me) and a fine dessert. The tour was very relaxing and easily paced, having plenty of time to enjoy each venue. The guide explained in detail the pertinent parts of each stop, but still allowed plenty of time for us to enjoy it ourselves. We made friends with a couple from Chile (who were on their honeymoon) and we learned a tremendous amount about life in South America during the hour we spent at dinner. All together, we are extremely pleased that we took this tour, and recommend all to make sure to take this excursion.

Very interesting tour on our first...

Very interesting tour on our first day in BA. Visited various areas with our guide and were told the history of where we were.
Tastings of Dulce de Leche and the wine tasting were good, however the meal was not as good as expected as we found the beef to be tough.
