Begeben Sie sich auf eine Reise durch das kulturelle und historische Herz von Kathmandu, während wir den ikonischen Kathmandu Durbar Square erkunden. Unsere Tour beginnt in Thamel, wo wir uns auf den Weg zu diesem UNESCO-Kulturerbe machen. Auf dem Weg halten wir am verehrten Naradevi-Tempel an, der für seine spirituelle Bedeutung bekannt ist, und besuchen Washa Deu, die Zahnschmerzgottheit, die von faszinierenden lokalen Glaubenssätzen durchdrungen ist. Während des Besuchs werden wir Zeuge der unglaublichen Newar-Kultur, die auf dem Platz blüht, und nehmen uns einen Moment Zeit, um Segen von der Lebendigen Göttin Kumari zu empfangen, die uns aus ihrem heiligen Fenster ziert.

Wasya Dyaa, oder der Zahnschmerzbaum, ist ein hölzernes Idol in der Nähe von Thahiti Tole in Kathmandu, das Zahnschmerzen heilen soll. Traditionell wird angenommen, dass das Einschlagen einer Münze in das Holz des Baumes Zahnschmerzen lindern kann. Diese Praxis stammt aus alten Glaubensrichtungen und wird trotz moderner Zahnpflege bis heute fortgeführt. Der Baum wird mit dem legendären Bangemudha in Verbindung gebracht, und viele Besucher kommen immer noch, um zu beten, bevor sie einen Zahnarzt aufsuchen. Rund um den Tempel hat sich ein zahnmedizinisches Zentrum mit mehr als 20 Kliniken entwickelt, einige davon stammen aus der Rana-Zeit. Dieser Ort verbindet nepalesische Mythologie mit moderner Gesundheitsversorgung und der Besuch von Wasya Dyaa ist ein einzigartiges Erlebnis für jeden, der sich für lokale Kultur und Tradition interessiert, besonders für diejenigen mit Zahnschmerzen.
Südwestlich von Asan Tole, an der Kreuzung von Kel Tole, zieht der Seto Machhindranath Tempel sowohl Buddhisten als auch Hindus an. Buddhisten betrachten ihn als Avalokiteshvara, während Hindus ihn als Regenbringer-Inkarnation Shivas verehren. Im Innenhof finden Sie kleine Schreine, Chaityas (kleine Stupas) und Statuen, darunter eine europäisch aussehende weibliche Figur, umgeben von Kerzen. Direkt vor dem Tempel sitzen zwei anmutige Bronzestatuen von Tara auf Säulen. Im Inneren ist das weißgesichtige Bild von Seto Machhindranath mit Blumen bedeckt. Obwohl das genaue Alter des Tempels unbekannt ist, wurde er im 17. Jahrhundert restauriert. Wenn Sie aussteigen, sehen Sie den kleinen tantrischen Lunchun Lunbun Ajima Tempel, der für seine erotischen Schnitzereien bekannt ist. In der Nähe bieten Geschäfte traditionelle nepalesische Kleidung an, darunter Topi (Hüte) und Daura Suruwal (traditionelle Kleidung), mit Miniaturversionen für Kinder.
Die Kumari, auch bekannt als Lebendige Göttin, ist ein heiliges Symbol für Macht und Reinheit in Kathmandu. Die Kumari residiert im Kumari Ghar (Kumari Tempel) am Kathmandu Durbar Platz und ihre Anwesenheit gilt als wesentlicher Bestandteil des spirituellen und kulturellen Gefüges der Stadt.
Hanuman Dhoka Palace, im Herzen des Kathmandu Durbar Square, ist ein historischer Palastkomplex, der der königliche Sitz der Malla-Könige und später der Schah-Dynastie war. Seinen Namen hat er von der nahegelegenen Statue des Affengottes Hanuman, die angeblich die königliche Familie beschützt. Die Palastanlage aus dem 16. Jahrhundert besteht aus mehreren Gebäuden, Höfen, Tempeln und Schreinen. Das bemerkenswerteste Bauwerk ist das Hauptpalastgebäude, das jahrhundertelang von den Königen und ihrem Hof genutzt wurde. Die Architektur des Hanuman Dhoka Palace ist ein atemberaubendes Beispiel für traditionelle nepalesische Architektur aus der Malla-Zeit mit aufwendig geschnitzten Holzfenstern, massiven Steinsäulen und aufwendigen Innenhöfen.

I did a free walking tour in Kathmandu with Santosh and really enjoyed it. He’s a knowledgeable and friendly guide who explains the city’s history in a clear and engaging way. While in Nepal my boyfriend and I did the Kathmandu Durbar Square Tour with Amazing Kathmandu Tours. Our tour guide was Santosh and he was fantastic! We walked from Thamel to Kathmandu Durbar Square first stopping at Seto Machindranath Temple. We then walked through several interesting areas, learning about the history of Nepal and the various religions and cultures, eventually arriving at Kathmandu Dubar Square. Santosh gave us a tour of the Hanuman Dhoka (Old Royal Palace), and the Kumari Ghar in hopes of seeing the Kumari herself (she did not show herself that day). We also walked past Freak Street, saw Kaal Bhairab, and walked around the Handicraft market. On the way back, we stopped at the Naradevi Temple and the Vaisha Dev Shrine, also known as the toothache tree, where people nail rupees to the tree in hopes of curing their tooth pain. We were looking for a tour with a small group (we lucked out and it was only the two of us), where we could learn a lot about the area and the history and culture of Nepal. This tour was perfect, long enough to learn a lot, but short enough to so some other adventures that day. As I hoped, Santosh taught us a lot about things we would have never learned. I especially liked learning about the fish in Asan, the tradition of hanging up images of snakes, and the religious imagery. I highly recommend taking a tour with Amazing Kathmandu Tours while in Kathmandu!

Santosh was extremely helpful from the very beginning. He gave me great advice on how to get around Kathmandu and even about trekking in Nepal. He took me through parts of the city I wouldn’t have explored on my own and assisted me with practical things like tickets for Durbar Square, a SIM card, and buses to Pokhara.
