Die Indian River, Cold Soufrière und Fort Shirley Tour ist einzigartig, weil sie eine ruhige, mystische Mangroven Flusskreuzfahrt mit Dominicas einzigartigen kalten geothermischen Merkmalen und einer bedeutenden historischen Stätte verbindet. Besucher erleben eine magische Reise auf dem Indian River, sehen die ausgeprägten "kalten" Vulkanphänomene an der geothermischen Stätte und erkunden das historisch reiche Fort Shirley im Cabrits-Nationalpark. Ein klimatisierter Van und erfahrener Fortgeschrittener zu allen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Meistens ist diese Tour nur privat oder in kleinen Gruppen.

Ein Durchgang durch den alten Marktplatz, auf dem alle Aktivitäten abgehalten wurden, einschließlich des Verkaufs von Sklaven, Bestrafung von Sklaven, Verkauf von Lebensmitteln und jetzt der Verkauf und die Präsentation von Kunst und Handwerk.
Das Old Mill Cultural Centre wurde zunächst für die Zucker- und Rumproduktion genutzt, bis die Zuckerindustrie in Dominica zusammenbrach. 1964 wurde das Anwesen an die Regierung von Dominica verkauft. 1976 wurde ein Teil der Mühle dem National Arts Council zugewiesen, der sie mit Hilfe eines Zuschusses der British Development Division in ein Kulturzentrum umwandelte.
Dominica Coconut Products, in den 1960er Jahren von Phillip Nassief gegründet, hat sich im Laufe der Jahre weiterentwickelt und firmiert unter DCP Colgate-Palmolive Company. Es ist zu einem Eckpfeiler der Seifenherstellungsindustrie in der Karibik geworden und trägt wesentlich zur Wirtschaft und zum regionalen Handel Dominicas bei.
Dieses Anwesen liegt in Salisbury direkt an der Westküste und hat eine Geschichte, die bis in die Vorkriegsjahre zurückreicht. Dominicas große Rumbrennerei hat Höhen und Tiefen erlebt. Die Macoucherie Estate ist seit mehreren Generationen in der Familie Shillingford und ist heute die einzige (offizielle) Brennerei auf der Insel, die Rum aus lokalem Rohr produziert. Nicht jeder Stock ist jedoch der Aufgabe gewachsen - Macoucherie verwendet nur das, was auf seinem Anwesen angebaut wird. Mit 10.000 Gallonen jährlich und bis zu vier Sorten abgefülltem Rum ist es ein großer Betrieb. Aber die Prozesse sind im Wesentlichen die gleichen wie die des kleinen Betriebs, der Mondschein erzeugt.
Fort Shirley ist Teil des Cabrits-Nationalparks im Norden von Dominica und kann als Dominikas wichtigste historische Stätte angesehen werden. 1802 war es Schauplatz des berühmten Aufstands des 8. West India Regiments. Die Briten übernahmen den größten Teil des Baus des Forts, aber die Franzosen nahmen während ihrer Besetzung von Dominica von 1778 bis 1784 bedeutende Ergänzungen vor. Eisenschmiede, Kaserne und andere Offiziersunterkünfte beherbergen und versorgen über 600 Mann im regulären Dienst zusammen mit ihrem Hilfspersonal aus Handwerkern und Sklaven.

Lennerd was a great guide! He’s very knowledgeable about his country and the various plants and trees that grow here. I Thank him for going above and beyond for accommodating us during the low travel season! And yes I can identify a Mango tree LOL O’Jolly did an awesome job on our Indian River tour. We were able to point out various crabs and fish and the site from a famous movie! Mid way tour you are treated to a hidden bar with great music. A total scene!
Lenard is amazing tour guide!!! He’s super kind, professional and caring!!! You can tell he loves his job and he’s super passionate and always trying to make sure we are good. He gave us a lot information and fun facts about Dominica and we enjoyed hiking, visiting, talking and having lunch with him. Indian lake is def the highlight of the tour. It is so beautiful and stunning (we saw many rare birds and white crab and blue crab!!!) and our captain Anjali is amazing person. I highly recommend this tour to all tourists visiting Dominica!!!
Ajahlie was an excellent guide! He knew how to adapt to the fact that he had to translate into French and therefore took the time to explain things well. He speaks Creole, so it's very practical! He was very knowledgeable about the history, the local fauna, and the flora. With him, you never get bored. Careful on the road, he explained to us the origin of the names and the history of each town we passed through. The boat trip was magnificent! Very welcoming guide and good navigator.
Lennard was a great tour guide. Started at Fort Shirley. Unfortunately this foet was completely remodeled for a concert/eedding/party venue, so the history is lost, but the guide tour really helped us picture what was there. Next we went to Cold Soufriere sulfur springs which was very interesting, you could hear the gas escaping the rocks. Our last adventure of the day after a great lunch at water's edge was a row down Indian River. Beautiful scenery and animals along the way.
yet another great day out with Waitukubuli Adventure Tour Co. Where we had a private tour with Hubert previosuly, this trip was with Tiffany (Hubert's better half). Having spent a day with each it's obvious why they found each other in their private life too ;) This was another amazing trip. A good hour drive from Roseau up to Portsmouth through beautiful surrounfings, great stories and Points of Interest from Tiffany. First stop was Cold Soufriere. As here is work being done we could only see the bubbles from a short distance. So much to see though, on to Fort Shirkey which is a really impressive site and the resoration is even more inpressive. Great lunch at Water's Edge in Portsmouth and then the Indian River tour. Unfortunately Tia Dalma wasn't home but her house still stands! Tiffany is full of interesting stories about colurfull characters, places, houses etc and the day will fly by all too quickly. So thanks, 2 trips to cherish.
