Tour guide was...

Tour guide was pleasant....But sanitary concerns especially in the beginning of the tour were a concern. Extra forks for serving eats were minimal so we mostly had to pick up certain shared foods by hand.

Hi Dawn, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback—we’re really glad you found your guide pleasant. We also appreciate you mentioning your concerns. Food tours in Mexico can sometimes include traditional, family-style tastings where certain items are enjoyed as they are locally served, but we understand that comfort levels around this can vary from guest to guest. That said, we do aim to provide serving utensils whenever possible and will take your comment into account as we continue refining the experience. Thanks again for joining us—we truly value your input and hope you enjoyed discovering Huatulco’s food scene overall. Warmly, Alicia

Cancelled then lost communication

The walking food tour cancelled which we understand it was lack of enough participants. My only complaint is that we messaged the host immediately and asked for another date and time while we are in Huatulco and we have not had a response in 36 hours.

Antwort des Anbieters

Your complaint should be directed at the third-party booking platform you used for your booking not at our independently-run small family business. We did not receive your message from that platform. We can always be reached directly via WhatsApp or email and we are very quick to respond.

Walking and Eating!

Overall it was a good experience. Ben the tour guide was informative, friendly, and energetic. Some small tweaks: have the tour guide arrive a little earlier before start time so we know we are in the right place. Next - we do not need to stop in stores (spending time in a crafts shop and an expensive jewelry store) - maybe there is a deal with these shop owners but unrelated to the food tour. These shops could easily just be recommendations but do not need to take time on the tour for it. There should also be a printed list of recommended restaurants for the guests as well. Lastly, we all shared desserts/treats on a roof top which was nice. However it was a little windy and we had to place our food on thin napkins. It would have been easier to have paper plates. A small suggestion would be to eat the savory food first (tacos and tamales, and then end it with the sweets). At the end, it would also be easier if we were walked to our original destination. But overall I do recommend this tour to learn more about the food and culture!

Thank you for joining the tour and for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed exploring the food and culture with Ben. Just to clarify a few points for future guests: the guide was present at the scheduled meeting point and ready to begin the tour. We always ask guests to arrive at the designated time so the group can start together. Regarding the artisan shops, we simply point them out along the route as part of the local landscape. Occasionally guests are curious and choose to step inside for a moment, but it is completely optional. We do not receive commissions or have commercial agreements with any of these businesses. The order of the tastings can vary from day to day. Because we visit street stalls and small family-run vendors, the sequence is often spontaneous — based on what is freshly available and sometimes even the rhythm of the group that day. That flexibility is part of what makes street food culture in Mexico so authentic. Pan dulce- the sweet bread- is a traditional morning food, followed by savory food such as tamales. This is the way we eat it in Mexico. As with any outdoor setting on the coast, the breeze sometimes makes an appearance. We always appreciate thoughtful suggestions. At the same time, it does seem a bit unusual to describe the experience as enjoyable overall while leaving a three-star rating. Thank you again for joining us and for recommending the tour. Food tour

From beginning to end it was fantastic. It was the perfect amount of food and took a perfect amount of time. There was a lot of great information and it was awesome meeting the local business owners. The group we did the tour with was awesome as well which made it that much better. I would not hesitate to do this tour again. Worth the time and money.

Good not Great

We like to start most of our holidays with a walking food tour. It’s a great way to get to know the area and get a sense of the food, the history, and culture of a place. We chose this tour because of the rave reviews especially of Jane. We did not get Jane - which is fine, that’s the luck of the draw. The positive, there was a lot of food. Our guide was kind and did well answering our questions. The food was good (especially the tamales and tacos). The negative. The pacing was off, the group was far too large (16-18) - it really should have been split in two, that would have solved most of the issues. The guide began before 10am, which got things off on the wrong foot… some participants had not yet arrived. When walking, because the group was spread out, he would sometimes begin talking before everyone had arrived at the stop. Street crossings were sometimes unsafe. Some activities (sharing pastries) may work well with a small group - but not with 16 people. Sitting in one spot for a long time and eating multiple things back to back (pastries, tamales, crickets, etc) is not what we have experienced on past tours… but that is a tour design choice - maybe some people prefer this format? If you asked me where a certain item came from (tamales) - I couldn’t tell you. It would have been nice to support that business further. Sanitation was an issue - no hand sanitizer for 16 hands in little bags of food (a plastic spoon would have been an easy solution). Tip: BYO hand sanitizer. The best part: supporting small businesses off the beaten path. The taco stop was great. Finishing with ice cream was great. Mezcal is mezcal…
