Lovely experience - everyone was so kind! Loved the painting class and would recommend doing the tour prior before the buses of visitors arrive.
We arrived and there was virtually no one there.. we eventually found someone and were set up upstairs with some wooden shoes and paint. Not very engaging. Had a brief tour with some other people and saw how they make cheese and shoes… 20 min total. Had some ok food while we painted by yourselves for an hour and a half. Then paid and left. Nice place to visit but wouldn’t do it again. People very hospitable.
First, getting there is a hassle if you don't have a car. We took UBER and the cost was about 40 EU. Then when we got there, there were a couple of young girls who didn't seem to speak English well. When they saw my confirmation and knew what we were there for they took us to a second floor room, gave us a pair of wooden shoes; paint brushes; paint and stencils and left. Since this was listed as a "guided" activity I expected more guidance. The shoes were raw wood, not dried or sealed, and it took several coats to cover them. Meantime someone came to check on us and asked if we wanted anything to drink. I asked for a coke since drinks and snacks were included. Later I was charged for that. Once we had an even coat of paint we tried to apply the stencils. They did not work at all. They were too stiff to conform to the shoes. Someone came and brought more stencils and said the girls would help us but after that person left the girls said they didn't know how to do it. They also had a shoe making demonstration and a large well stocked gift shop.
We had a lovely time painting our clogs, followed by a clog making demonstration and also a short talk about cheese making. Also had the opportunity to taste some of the cheeses. Would recommend this for relaxing change of pace from city centre Amsterdam
Something unique and fun to do. My 14 yr old son and I painted wooden shoes, had lunch and then did the cheese making workshop. Had lots of fun.
Such a fun activity! I am a solo traveler and I love to paint. I enjoyed getting out of Amsterdam and seeing the countryside. Everyone working here is very kind and speak English 😀 The ticket included all art supplies, stencils, the clogs and a coffee. I highly recommend a visit and this activity because now I have a special souvenir and a fun memory.
