We were picked up at our Hotel, by Tan and a friend of his on scooters where we then zoomed through the streets of Hoi An and got to see the beautiful scenery. We were then brought to the River for the tour in the coconut basket with a local guide that sang songs and had a gleaming energy throughout the entirety of the tour. Catching crabs is something that she clearly excels at and grabbing the crabs with her hands and throwing them in the bucket was an easy feat for her. For someone that isn‘t so close to nature and lives in a european city, this was definitely a reach out of my comfort zone and I wasn‘t able to catch the crabs with my bare hands. Oh well, maybe next time! After paddling back, we were picked up by Tan who had prepped the food at the kitchen and we got to making 4 different meals in a seriously fast tempo. Tan showed and explained everything in a very understandable manner, with a lot of humor and an eager eye to document us on this culinary journey! (He‘s a fantastic photographer) After we were done cooking, we got to enjoy the delicious and traditional meals and Tan then explained again what was needed for each recipe, in a step by step fashion, so we could repeat it back home. We were then brought back home, the same way we came, on the back of a scooter, the beautiful Hoi An scenery in front of the setting sun.
We were collected from our hotel on motorbike. The ride to the cooking school on the island was fun and scenic. We hopped into a bamboo boat and were guided along the river. Spent some time catching crabs. Our guide on the river worked hard to entertain us and was clearly anticipating a tip. He was not shy to ask for a tip at the end of the boat ride. Back at the cooking school it was just us and one other couple. The cooking itself was a very “well oiled machine” and the food was tasty at the end. Lots of opportunities and encouragement to take photos. We did not receive water and were charged an additional fee for drinks.
Market tour was very informative and the boats were lots of fun. The cooking class was extremely fun and made plenty of tasty food
Such a nice experience the coconut boat tour is so much fun and tan is an amazing chef and teacher
Chef Ta and his team gave us a great experience from the bamboo boats to the cooking class. The food was delicious and ingredients were very fresh. Definitely recommend doing this tour and cooking class. Thank you.
Fantastic experience and amazing food cooked with Tam!
The tour was great and the food purchasing and cooking excellent. For feedback not so good the ticket purchased said pickup at hotel but the operator would not do that, even though it’s on our tickets. So we had to pay for taxis each way so you should fix this or offer a reduced price.
What a happy way to spend a morning. Tam was welcoming and kind. A whistle stop tour of the market and a fun coconut boat ride and crab fishing. Our young boys enjoyed catching crabs and helping with the cooking. Tam did a lovely job involving them and encouraging non-cooks to participate and help. We made a delicious lunch of papaya salad, BBQ eggplant, mushroom pancakes, noodles and caramelised bananas. The kids loved the noodles, pancakes and bananas. A great experience. Thank you!
Tam was amazing!! He was on time, friendly and knowledgeable. We went to the clown Hoi A market and then he drove us via motorbike to a small fishing village where we went to the river for some traditional crabbing. When we went back to the house to cook he was very helpful and knowledge. And my god the food was as amazing!!!!! A true Vietnamese experience. Especially for the price. Highly recommend !
It was a really great experience. At home, I don’t like to cook. But I did like this cooking class! All the ingredients are fresh from the area. Some ingredients were new to me, others are the same we have in Europe. It was a lot and I couldn’t finish it, but I got a take-away bag. They are sending the receipe to me, so I can try to cook it at home too.
