Wenn Sie um 7 Uhr morgens von Auckland abfahren, nehmen Sie eine angenehme Fahrt in Richtung Süden über die Bombay Hills in das reiche Milchland der Waikato-Inseln und biegen dann nach Osten ab. Ein kurzer Stopp bei einem erhöhten Blick über die Hauraki-Ebene mit der Kaimai Coromandel-Reihe in der Ferne sorgt für ein tolles Gruppenfoto.
Es ist alles flach und fährt durch die Ebenen durch Ackerland zu einer stillgelegten Molkerei für eine Kaffee- / Tee-Pause. Ein paar Minuten weiter befindet sich das Informationszentrum in Matamata, das einem Hobbit-Haus ähnelt. Hier können Sie mit der Statue von Gollum eine Pose einnehmen.
Nicht weit nach Hobbiton, wo Sie Ihr ortskundiger Reiseleiter rund um das Filmset mit 44 Hobbit-Löchern, Bilbos Haus - Bag End, die Mühle, die Doppelbogenbrücke und den Partybaum - begleitet. Zum Abschluss des Green Dragon erhalten Sie ein kostenfreies Bier, Apfelwein oder ein alkoholfreies Ingwerbier, während Sie die Atmosphäre genießen. Ein Mittagsbuffet folgt im Party Marquee neben dem Green Dragon.
Von Hobbiton aus fahren wir als nächstes zum Lake Karapiro und zum Wasserkraftwerk am Waikato River, um einen Fotostopp zu machen, bevor wir den Damm überqueren. Im Hintergrund erhebt sich der majestätische 797 m hohe Mt Maungatautari (Sanctuary Mountain).
Wenn Sie durch die ländliche Kleinstadt Neuseeland und in das „King Country“ reisen, das nach der Kīngitanga (Maori King Movement) und ihren Anhängern während der Neuseeland-Kriege der 1860er Jahre benannt wurde, finden Sie mehr rollendes Farmland. In Waitomo werden Sie während Ihrer 45-minütigen geführten Tour durch die Höhle die Konstellationen von winzigen leuchtenden Glühwürmern, die beeindruckende Kathedrale und faszinierende Stalagmiten und Stalaktiten beobachten, bevor sie mit einem Boot aus dieser Kalksteingrotte kommen.

We were thoroughly entertained by our guide Danilo as we wandered around Hobiton. The village itself is an amazing example of imagination and ingenuity. I really loved this place which captured the feeling and tone of scenes from the movies. The video messages seen in the bus to and from really introduced the fondness Jackson has for his country. Well worth the visit.
A great tour would advise everyone to visit this place it is a great day out also called at rotarua hot spring where the meal was cooked in front of you by a moaria lady
Keith was on time to pick us up from our hotel. We were quickly on our way to the attractions that we were interested seeing. We traveled in his Jaguar which was comfortable and pleasant. Keith told us about the areas we drove through, but left the information on Hobbiton and Waitomo to the local guides. I thought we were going to be in a small group tour with others and commentary on where we were going and what we would see, so I was surprised that it was just the two of us with a private driver, not really a tour. We have no complaints about the day, we just were expecting something different. We would recommend Keith to anyone who wanted a private driver. He was kind, courteous, thoughtful and professional. Just be aware of what you are reserving.
