Georges Island hat eine reiche Geschichte. Von der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg war es Teil des „Halifax Defense Complex“. Informationstafeln und Reiseführer erzählen eine faszinierende Geschichte von der Antike, als die Mi'kmaq in Kjipuktuk, dem „Großen Hafen“, ankamen, über die Ankunft der Briten im Jahr 1749 bis zur Inhaftierung der Akadier während der Deportation von 1755–63 der Schutz der Stadt während der Weltkriege. Mit freundlicher Genehmigung von Parks Canada können Sie an einer Führung durch die unterirdischen Tunnel der Insel teilnehmen. Reisende können einen Teil der Halifax-Promenade sehen, die mit 4 Kilometern (2,5 Meilen) eine der längsten städtischen Promenaden der Welt ist und sich über die gesamte Länge der Uferpromenade erstreckt.

This is a hidden gem that more people should go and visit! The tour guides were excellent. The tunnels were well kept.
The history was amazing and the views were stunning. The ferry staff were friendly and helpful. Our fellow passengers were friendly.

A visit to George’s Island is a must when in Halifax. Both the above- and below-ground fortifications are well worth seeing. Angus, our guide for the underground portion, was well-versed in the history of the island, and was able to answer any and all questions thrown at him!
Very friendly, laid-back & accommodating staff on the boat & the island. Great tunnel tour, full of interesting information. Learned some new things that I hadn't already known (or remembered) from other tours. Like the option to buy a ticket for whatever time suits you, and then stay until the last boat. We stayed for two hours, but nice to know you could extend that if you wished, by going over earlier. Reminder to travellers that there are toilets on the island but no running water, so be sure to bring water (or snacks) if needed.
Short boat ride that circled the island. That was good. Geoges Island was wonderful to see. Not very busy!
Interesting history of the island. Enjoyed the tour of the tunnels, which was about 15 minutes. There is a remaining time was walking around the island. Lots of information.
