What a lovely tour with great food and lots history. Our guide Emre was funny and very knowledgeable about the history of Halifax. He took us to several restaurant spots that served delicious food. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like! We especially loved the donair and have already looked to see who has it in Florida. Thank you Emre!!
Emre will be so happy to hear your kind words — his sense of humor and passion for sharing Halifax’s history and local food scene truly make the experience memorable.
Food is very good mostly seafood. Some walking involved. My guide Layton was excellent. I was actually on the tour myself
It was a nice walk and all the food was good. I even got to experience a new food, the donair. Our guide discussed history and architecture, and had answers to our query.
We are visiting Halifax as a celebration of our daughter's recent wedding. We are fans of food tours, and this one seemed like an obvious choice. Our guide (Jim) was knowledgeable about the region, as well as warm and friendly. His stories of Acadian culture and the history of Halifax were very interesting, and the food was excellent. It was also the first time eating oysters for both my wife and I! All in all, it was an extremely enjoyable experience in Halifax. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to sample the local maritime cuisine.
Our guide never showed up, so we got no tour. We waited for over 45 minutes, tried to call tour company but got an answering machine.
Food was very good, lots of it in a short time. The guide was very knowledgable, telling stories about the history of the Harbour. Could have used extra time to digest between sampling. Overall quite enjoyable.
I received multiple reminders of our booked food tour in Halifax. The guide did not show up. The doorman at the front of the hotel said they are usually late. I emailed the company and confirmed it was the correct meeting spot. I called and found out the guide was on their way and stuck in traffic. I was called back and was told that the guide did not know there was a tour that day & they would send someone else. The last call was to cancel us. This was all so disappointing and a waste of our time.
Guide admittedly not a foodie so no info on local cuisine or dining tips. This was part of the reason we booked this tour. Food sampled was good. Guide training or guide assignment issue?
We’re sorry your guide wasn’t able to share local food knowledge and cuisine insights, it's an central part of this tour and should have been part of your adventure. We’re glad you enjoyed the tastings, we'll check in with your guide and make sure the knowledge about the food is hared with all guests taking a food walking tour with us.
We have done food tours all over the world and this one was at best underwhelming. I would put the blame squarely on the local organizers or owners. Our guide Stu, admitted that he had never done one before and had simply been told to take the group to five eateries. Not one of the places knew we were coming in advance and there was very little knowledge about the place or the food. We actually did most of the organizing. To his defense, I’m not sure whoever did the booking gave him any background. When prompted he had lots of knowledge about the history of Halifax but hadn’t been told to share any additional information but rather just take us to the food spots. It was also “sold” as an understanding about food and tips and recommendations about eating places. None of those were available. We went to five spots, three of which were within 40 meters of each other, so not much strolling. Again, I can’t blame the guide as he was set up for failure by the local organizers who obviously picked the places and who seemed happy to just take the money and not give any information or preparation to the guide. We knew we were off to a tough start when we arrived at the first restaurant and the owner was surprised we didn’t have a reservation and allowed us how lucky we were and then our guide announced that he wasn’t really a good food person. On the plus side the food was all delicious and plentiful. Definitely if this tour was any indication of Viator tours in Halifax, I would not recommend this company!
Thank you for sharing such a detailed review. We’re very sorry to hear that your Halifax food tour did not live up to expectations. What you’ve described is certainly not the standard of experience we want to provide. Food tours should feel seamless, with guides prepared, and plenty of local insight along the way—not something that leaves you feeling like you had to organize it yourself. We do want to acknowledge Stu’s efforts in sharing what he could about Halifax’s history, but you’re right—he should have been able to elevate the experience a bit more. We’re glad you enjoyed the food itself, but we know the overall experience fell short, and we’ll be working closely with our guides to deliver both the food knowledge and cultural insights guests deserve. We really appreciate your honest feedback—it helps us identify where we’ve missed the mark and make improvements so future guests have the authentic, engaging food experience they’re looking for.
Food is good. The guide makes all the difference in the experience and this guide doesn’t represent the company in a positive way.
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. It's wonderful that you enjoyed the food, but we're disappointed to hear that your guide fell short of providing you the See Sight standard experience. A personal, engaging and smooth tour along with insightful local guidance and commentary is how we want our guests to spend their time with us. We apologize for the letdown. Thank you for letting us know, we will use it to reinforce our training and standards. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back and show you the quality experience we’re known for.
