Sie sind alles, was von einem größeren Totentempelkomplex übrig geblieben ist, den Pharao Amenophis III. im 14. Jahrhundert v. Chr. (ca. 1350-1334 v. Chr.) erbauen ließ. Die Statuen zeigen Amenophis III. auf seinem Thron sitzend. Jede Statue ist etwa 18 Meter hoch und wiegt etwa 700 Tonnen. Sie wurden aus einzelnen Blöcken Quarzitsandstein gehauen und ursprünglich am Eingang des Pharaotempels aufgestellt. Die Statuen wurden geschaffen, um den Tempel zu bewachen und die göttliche Macht und Autorität des Pharaos darzustellen.

Ahmed A was really the best guide we could have ever had. Seriously this guy knew his stuff well on ancient Egyptian history and was excellent. Covered all the must see in the valley of the kings, Hatshepsut temple and menmon etc. He also provided cold water bottles and ice cream which was much needed in the Luxor heat. Thank you Ahmed 👍👍👍
