Das Gateway of India ist ein Bogendenkmal aus dem 20. Jahrhundert in Mumbai, Indien. Das Denkmal wurde errichtet, um an die Landung von König-Kaiser George V. und Königin-Kaiserin Maria in Apollo Bunder bei ihrem Indienbesuch im Jahr 1911 zu erinnern. Der Grundstein für das Tor Indiens wurde im indo-sarazenischen Stil gelegt und am 31. März gelegt 1911. Das Bauwerk ist ein 26 Meter hoher Bogen aus Basalt. Mani Bhavan war von 1917 bis 1934 etwa 17 Jahre lang Gandhis Hauptsitz in Mumbai. Das Herrenhaus gehörte Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri, Gandhis Freund und Gastgeber in dieser Zeit in Mumbai. Von Mani Bhavan aus initiierte Gandhi die Non-Cooperation-, Satyagraha-, Swadeshi-, Khadi- und Khilafat-Bewegung. Gandhis Verbindung mit der Charkha begann 1917, als er in Mani Bhavan war. Bei seinem Besuch im November 2010 war Barack Obama der erste hochkarätige internationale Besucher, der den Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya in den letzten 50 Jahren besuchte. I had a fantastic half-day Mumbai city tour with Linda Tours and highly recommend guide Aziz and driver Niraj. Aziz was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing Mumbai’s history, culture, and daily life. He did an excellent job explaining the contrasts that make Mumbai so fascinating, from colonial landmarks and local markets to the city’s incredible diversity and rapid development. We visited highlights including Dhobi Ghat, Haji Ali, Mani Bhavan (Gandhi’s home), and saw everything from the famous Victoria Terminus to the incredible skyline and local neighborhoods. Aziz shared so much interesting context about Mumbai’s religions, transportation system, food culture, and history, while also making the tour feel very personal and easygoing. Niraj was an excellent driver who navigated Mumbai traffic calmly and safely, which definitely added to the experience. As a solo female traveler, I also felt very comfortable throughout the day. The tour was informative, well-paced, and gave me a much deeper appreciation for Mumbai in just a few hours. I would absolutely recommend Linda Tours, especially Aziz and Niraj, to anyone visiting the city for the first time.
