Excellent and knowledgeable guide

Thoroughly recommend this half day tour particularly if you are short on time. Our guide Lebo was excellent, very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We learnt so much from Lebo, particularly about the history of Johannsburgs early gold days right through to current times. The visits to the Apartheid Museum and Soweto, while confronting, it is something we think everybody should do to get an appreciation of what Johannesburg is about. Thank you Lebo.

Informative and moving tour

Awesome tour with our guide Lebo, who was knowledgeable on the history and culture of Johannesburg and Soweto. The apartheid museum was an highlight, an informative and often confronting portrayal of South Africa’s past. Overall a highly recommended tour.

Will Return with Others

This was my first trip to South Africa, and this tour is part of the reason I am likely to return. Ntombi was a warm and knowledgeable ambassador of Johannesburg and her country. She started the tour by asking me, "In addition to the locations listed on this tour, is there anything else you would like to see?" What a great start. Visiting each location, Ntombi allowed me to experience each at my own pace. I was never rushed or hurried. In fact, she extended my tour timeline to ensure I had a satisfying experience. Additionally, Thandazani, the driver, adeptly navigated the busy streets of Johannesburg as we moved from site to site. Without question, he turned around to allow me to see a location of my personal curiosity that we may have passed. He's a pro! I want to return to Johannesburg with other friends and family. I will hope to have Ntombi be the guide for us!

Great trip, shouldn’t be missed

Our guide was so knowledgeable and explained everything we saw. We had plenty of chances for photos too. We saw the families who lived in the shanty town area which was interesting. I learned more on this trip than any other I’ve done in South Africa. The apartheid museum at the end of the tour brought together everything we had been told.

Loved the guide!

The best part of this tour was our guide, Griffith. He was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing detailed history, stories, and anecdotes throughout the 6-hour tour. He was easy-going, friendly, and happy to answer any and all questions - truly 10/10! We loved getting a glimpse of Soweto and learning the history of the 1976 uprising. Mandela’s house and the Apartheid Museum were definite highlights! The only reason we didn’t rate 5/5 is that parts of the tour felt like the tourists traps that we often try to avoid - we were invited into a home in Soweto and asked to donate to the family who lived there (which we were happy to do), but when another person on our tour didn’t have cash to donate, they quickly whipped out a card reader for her to use. When touring the kindergarten, the kids appeared performative for the tourists, but as soon as we left, everything seemed to stop - and, again, we were asked to donate. Upon leaving, we were accosted by vendors who took us by the hand and led us to their tables. When arriving at Mandela house, we were greeted by costumed Zulu dancers who insisted on pictures and donations as well. We understand that everybody needs to make a living and that tourism is a good way to generate income, but we don’t love repeatedly being pressured for donations throughout a tour.
