What good fun. Our guide Abner was the best. Informative, funny, attentive, and just a really nice guy. He did not hurry us and took the time to share his wealth of knowledge of the area, the culture and history. The kayaks and gear were well maintained and comfortable. The experience was one of the highlights of our Belizean visit.
We were lucky enough to catch Abner as a couple. My wife and I are from Montana and frequent boaters. The idea (nothing against tubers, thanks for enjoying things and picking up after yourselves) of tubing is low on my list since we spend our summers on SUPs for simple rivers and kayaks when tibia breakage enters the chat. I'm only mentioning this for others who may feel the same way about tubing in a flotilla. We $aved by getting ourselves to the spot, and had a fantastic guide. Abner took us paddling to the end of the line (3-4 caverns upstream) from the put in. He was knowledgeable about the caves, their history, and generally all of the many questions I had about Belize from his perspective. I/we had a blast and learned a bunch. I cannot recommend this tour enough.
The tour itself was good. Guide was good too. Too much drive time compared to actual kayaking time. The tippers to cruises leave every hour. So be mindful of no time wasted. Guide got down to show a spider and we ended up during school closure time with additional traffic and had to wait over 45 minutes to next tipper.
All depends where you are staying. Drive time to the caves. from corozal 3 hours, from orange walk or Placencia 2.5 hours, from San Ignacio or belize city cruise port marine terminal or airport 1hour 10 minutes from San Pedro ambergris caye water taxi 1 hour drive time 1 hour 10 minutes
Abner was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and personable. The kayaks gave more maneuverability than the tubes. His knowledge of the cave system and the flora of Belize was top notch. Highly recommend this tour with Abner.
My wife and I had a great time with our guide Abner. He was there early for our tour and gave us a class in jungle edibles and safety as we hiked to our start point. He was very attentive and made sure we were safe at all times and engaged. Would recommend this tour to anyone . Thx. Randall Jordan
Cave kayaking was such a cool experience! Abner was our guide for our group of 5 and he was very friendly and took his time during the swim stops. We started off hiking through the forest with 3 water crossings before we got to the kayaks. We kayaked through a number of caves, stopped at a couple of spots to swim and jump off rocks (one outside of cave and inside of cave). The scenery was unreal both inside and outside of the caves and the water was beautiful. We did not feel claustrophobic at all as the caves open up after you enter. Kayaking seemed much more adventurous than tubing which was more our pace and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Tips: bring and reapply mosquito repellent while hiking to and from cave each time you get out of the water; wear closed toe shoes as it is rocky walking inside the cave and during river crossings.
Had a good time the guide was informative and it was easy to meet up with him. Remember it’s at a preserve so you have to pay per person to get into the park as well.
Better than tubing since you get to go further upstream and see the whole cave. You can control your speed and where you want to go. Usually less people than in the tubing groups.
Wonderful scenery and a great guide. Tour length was just right. Much of the tour was in isolation from other groups, which we preferred. The Bat Room was awesome. Mandatory helmet and life jacket were overkill and uncomfortable.
We had an amazing experience with Abren, our guide! He led us through the forest to the starting point, telling us about different trees and living creatures. We paddled through the cave stopping at wonderful places - underground waterfall, crystalls, swimming hole. At one stop Abren took us for a short walk in the cave. At the end of the trip we paddled on the river to the finish and it was another adventure on the shallow but pretty fast river. We really enjoyed all the wonderful places and our guide. Thank you very much Viv Tours and Abren!
