Reiseverlauf

Incredible experience at Grey Glacier

We had an amazing experience at Grey Glacier. The scenery is simply spectacular and the whole tour organization was excellent. I want to highlight especially the guides Joaquin and Matias, who had wonderful attention with us. Before arriving at the tour we had a flat tire and they kindly waited for us, which we really valued very much. That gesture made a difference and shows the great professionalism and human quality of the team. We definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Chilean Patagonia. Wonderful!

Once in a lifetime

Great experience, so fun. Be forewarned, it is about a mile walk between check in at the hotel, driving 10 minutes to the parking location and then the walk through the woods and then across a sandy beach to get to the boat. The actual boat ride is about 3 hours. Limited food and drink options on the boat and there is a restroom. But seeing the glacier up close is once in a lifetime.

Glacier grey boat tour

The glacier grey boat tour was spectacular. It was breathtaking to see the glacier. Matias one of the guides on the boat was very informative along with all the other guides. Had a great time on this tour and would highly recommend this.

Navigation Lake Grey

This tour we buy through Nomads, totally reliable. We had to schedule transfer from Puerto Natales to the Hotel Lago Grey where the check in is done, we also coordinated it with Nomads, the Service was done Patagonia Planet. Everything was fulfilled as offered, specifically we went on September 22. Sailing takes just under three hours. The great value is the landscape and see the three descents of Grey Glacier to the lake, we have a beautiful day. I recommend this trip for its beauty and ease in everything and the weather accompanied us.

Long time family reunion.

Part of my trip involves a wheel chair and I had to pass on the grip. The hike to and from the boat is not conducive to a wheel chair. I did not see this mentioned anywhere in the reservation material. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the excursion.

Interesting lake journey.

The walk from the Hotel Lago Grey to the boat is quite long and diverse. You cross the river and walk on pebbly windy beach. Seeing the lake and the glasier from the boat gives one a unique perspective. The boat was crowded. Drinks were served on board and we enjoyed our Pisco Calafate. At some point it was allowed to go up on the upper deck. It was a beautiful sight to see the glacier closely and the bluish icebergs on the lake. The drinks on the boat are served with the ice from the glazier Gray. We used to the catamaran service to get to Refugio Gray and to our trailhead.

Great cruise and experience!

We took the glacier cruise on our final day in Torres del Paine along our 10-day trip through Chile. New Year’s Day at 9 AM there was a line that stretched across the entrance of the hotel for those people who were checking in to the glacier tour. After check-in, we drove about 10 minutes down to the parking lot by the market and then strolled along the wooded path across the rocky shore and pebbled beach to the boat. Once on board, it was about a 40 minute cruise out into the lake. We were served a Pisco sour or Calafate Pisco sour before dropping about a half a dozen hikers off at the camp and picked up about a half a dozen campers. We then continued our way towards the two main arms, the second of which had 3 tongues. Overall it was a fantastic and very well run tour, even though there’s not much in regards to narration, but the staff was very friendly and even helped to take pictures with glacial ice fresh out of the lagoon.

Opportunity to see the glaciers of Patagonia

It is a beautiful boat ride if you haven t yet admired the majestic glaciers of Patagonia. The walk to the boat is longer than expected

Insensitive or inept tour operators

We were on the 9:00 tour. After a 30 minute hike from the departure point we stood in line in freezing weather at the unattended catamaran for a full hour before anyone met us. After boarding they used the most despicable excuse possible-“it’s not our fault”. They said sorry, let’s go. I have ridden in NYC taxi seats more comfortable than the worn out seats on Grey III. They had a chalkboard onboard advertising coffee, beer and liquor for sale, but had no coffee. Grey Glacier is the most impressive glacier in South Patagonia and this is the only company offering a tour. The glacier, and we, deserve better.

Impressive but difficult.

The Grey Glacier boat excursion on Grey III was fun because of the people we met, but not my favorite boat excursion to see glaciers. The walk to the boat was long and difficult on a very rocky beach. If you have any question about walking on difficult terrain for a little more than 1 mile, I cannot recommend this excursion. The boat was comfortable. While the glacier is impressive, if you are going to see the San Rafael glacier, or Perito Moreno in Argentina, I would not spend time on this tour.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your experience of this tour. We'll update the information regarding the difficulty of the trek. We do consider that Grey Glacier is very worthy of visiting, nonetheless, as it is a natural landmark of Chile and Patagonia. Best regards, Martin
