Diese kompakte Tour durch das Gebiet nördlich von Glasgow besucht Stirling Castle, das Wallace Monument, Dumbarton Castle und Luss am Loch Lomond. Verlassen Sie Glasgow und fahren Sie nach Westen in Richtung Loch Lomond, der erste Halt auf unserer Tour ist Dumbarton Castle, das die älteste aufgezeichnete Geschichte einer schottischen Festung hat, die bis ins 5. Jahrhundert zurückreicht, als der Heilige Patrick einen Brief an König Ceretic sandte, es war der erste schriftliche Brief über eine Siedlung dort. Wenn Sie Dumbarton verlassen, ist es eine kurze Fahrt zu Ihrem ersten Blick auf „The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond“. Diese Worte stammen aus dem schottischen Folksong „You take the High Road and I’ll take the Low Road“. Loch Lomond hat die größte Fläche eines Sees auf dem britischen Festland und ist über 37 Meilen lang. Nur 10 Minuten später stoppen wir in Luss, einem der beliebtesten Dörfer Schottlands, die man besuchen sollte. Gehen Sie vorbei an den hübschen Sandstein- und Schieferhütten zum Pier für einen herrlichen Blick auf Loch Lomond und über das Loch zu den Bergen. Von der Anlegestelle ist es ein sehr kurzer Spaziergang zum stimmungsvollen Kirchenfriedhof, der Gräber aus dem Jahr 600 n. Chr. / 700 n. Chr. mit einem Wikinger-Hogback-Grabstein aufweist.
Unsere Route nach Stirling von Loch Lomond ist besonders landschaftlich reizvoll mit hübschen Dörfern, herrlicher Aussicht und einem optionalen Halt in der Glengoyne Distillery, die Sie wählen können. Nur ein kurzer Halt, um die malerischen Gebäude, den Laden und den Hof voller Whiskyfässer zu sehen.
Wenn man sich Stirling von Westen nähert, sind das Castle und das Wallace Monument von weitem sichtbar. Stirling Castle ist eines der größten und bedeutendsten Schlösser Schottlands, historisch und architektonisch. Die Burg liegt hoch auf einem Vulkanvorsprung und bewacht den tiefsten Übergangspunkt des Flusses Forth. Im Schloss gibt es viel zu entdecken und zu genießen.
Das William Wallace Monument Nur 8 Autominuten von der Burg entfernt, ist dieses ikonische Denkmal 220 Fuß hoch und befindet sich auf dem Hügel Abbey Craig über den Feldern, wo Wallace 1297 seine Truppen zum Sieg bei der Schlacht von Stirling Bridge führte. Es gibt 276 Stufen bis zur Spitze. Eine kurze Fahrt vom Wallace Monument bringt uns zur Stirling Bridge. Die heutige Stirling Bridge wurde in den 1400er Jahren erbaut und ersetzte eine Reihe von Holzbrücken. 1297 besiegte William Wallace die Truppen Edwards 1 in der Schlacht von Stirling Bridge. Heute ist die Brücke eine der besten mittelalterlichen Mauerbogenbrücken Schottlands.
Ein Besuch in Bannockburn, wo König Robert the Bruce und seine Armee 1314 die berühmteste Schlacht in der schottischen Geschichte gewannen. Ein kurzer Spaziergang zur Statue von König Robert The Bruce mit Stirling Castle als Kulisse lohnt sich. Es gibt auch ein Besuchererlebnis mit Eintrittsgeld. Mike is a fabulous tour guide as well as a driver. Van was new comfortable and Mike himself was accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and lots of fun. The tour was amazing, every stop full of historical information and terrific photo opportunities. My family of six enjoyed every minute of this tour. Hire Mike you will be very glad you did.

Mike was an awesome tour guide and driver. He knew all the best places to take us and had a wealth of interesting information. We all really enjoyed our tour with him. Mike picked us up at our hotel and spent the full day taking us around the area. We made a stop at the Drymen bakery and deli it was excellent. The village of Luss was nice and we ended up having a great chat with the Minister at the Kirk. Mike was a great guide, knowledgeable and friendly.
Mike gave us a fabulous tour of Glasgow and the surrounding area. The Glasgow Cathedral was stunning, with beautiful stained glass and gothic architecture. The Necropolis had breathtaking views of the city. We saw Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, beautiful Loch Lomond and fabulous gardens. Mike is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and is quite personable. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him and learned a lot about Scotland in the process. Best guide we've ever had.
5⭐️ Mike from Private Scottish Tours is a fantastic guide. He provides so much local and historical knowledge of not only Glasgow but of Scotland too. We travelled in his extremely comfortable van to amazing places and we felt like we stepped back in time. Breathtaking Cathedrals, Century old graves, spectacular Castles and stunning countryside. The tour was simply amazing. Mike our tour guide reached out to us well ahead of our tour and asked if there was anything special we would like to include in our tour. I mentioned that I was interested in seeing the area near Loch Lomond of the Buchanan clan which is my mother’s family name. He was prepared! He took us to see so many areas and knew so much of the history. He also took us into the highlands and some of the most amazing views. Lunch at Loch Fyne, the fresh oysters and local Fyne Ale was the icing on the cake. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

Mike was an excellent tour guide. We were only in the area for the day, and he made sure we packed as much in as we could. Whether in city or countryside, Mike was able to provide history from Vikings to movie shoots. His local passion for this beautiful region really shows, and the hole in the wall fish and chips spot on the fjord was the best we had in the UK to top it off!
