Just do it! It’s fun! See sea turtles fish, Conks and lots of Coral. The chiclet I good and interesting. As well as the rum. Allen was our babysitter and did a Hreat Job!
The guide was great but the glass bottom boat was only so so. It may have been the time of year, but we really couldn’t see anything at all. The wildlife refuge was nice. We have been to Roatan three times previously, so after seeing the nature preserves all three times, we will probably go to a beach club next time. All the guides were friendly. Just the glass bottom boat was a little disappointing.
Loved the driver, he was fun and sweet. Boat was just ok, didn't go out very far and didn't see much.
William was an exceptional guide, and very funny and caring! The animal sanctuary was amazing and so was the glass bottom boat tour seeing the coral barrier reef! William was an efficient driver and the air conditioned van kept us cool! The chocolate and rum tasting stops were delicious and nice to see some local culture..
I am glad I did this tour however I would like to share some details to help others choose to ensure it's what you are signing up and paying for - it wasn't cheap (80USD per person). I went with a group of family/friends (6 persons) - meet up at the cruise port. The route we took was not the one published. We first went to the AJ's Monkeys and Sloths where we met a bunch of hamsters, then the sloths, then Macaw's and finally some monkey's. You were able to handle all of them if you wanted. A photographer was present if you needed/wanted their services. It was a bit concerning to see the small size of the cages however, but all animals appeared healthy and happy to see us. We then were taken to a small tourist shop where they gave a very brief explanation on how chocolate was made and then left us to make purchases if desired - chocolates, coffee, other souvenirs - all in USD. Third stop was the Roatan Rum Company where there were several rums to sample and purchase. This place did also offer a terrace bar to get your favorite rum infused beverage with a spectacular view as we were quite high in elevation. Finally, we were taken to a beach where we departed on the glass bottom boat tour which was nice to cool off under water to see fish, turtles, manta rays and some divers in the coral reef. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative during the entire tour. Start/end time - take care as our cruise ship stayed on Tampa time (EST) which is different from the Roatan time. Start time was, of course, Roatan time. We only had a driver who didn't really speak English. From reading other reviews and other tours similar to this, I was expecting a bit more tour guide/ information about Roatan and the places we were taken, but in our case, we were only driven place to place - no additional history, details provided. I was particularly disappointed in this as I enjoy to learn a little from the locals. Meeting Instructions could be improved - My friend, how booked, did need to send a note to the tour provider to get the meeting instructions. Not only at the exit of the port, which is normal, but then we needed to walk a couple of blocks then wait in a parking lot for the driver the get the van. Not a huge deal but not what I was expecting. Roatan is beautiful and I am happy that I got out of the port area to see the surroundings so for at least this, the tour gave me this opportunity. We arrived back at the Port in plenty of time to enjoy a beverage at one of the bars. Note -the port here is amazing so it was good to have time to enjoy it.
Sorry about your expirience on the guide i will follow up on that make sure it dont happen again
We were fortunate to have William as our guide. His knowledge of the island was outstanding. He was patient and encouraged questions. He made suggestions that made the trip more enjoyable!
I'm giving three stars because it was SO HARD to find the actual tour guide after departing. The location given to meet is just the general port location but there was no specifics like exiting the entire port and meeting outside. Also, it was FRUSTRATING because the ticket did not have the name of the tour guide and there are HUNDREDS of tour guides outside to greet you and we was cutting it close to the tour start time by the time we actually found the tour person . We also had to WALK about ten min to the actual vehicle and the roads were so busy. Thank God I had my baby carrier on because the roads are not suitable for a stroller. David was alert and a good tour guide, maybe the tour guide should offer a place to try local food and drinks for future tours . I would say walk with beach clothes because if you miss the glass bottom boat then there is an hour wait until the next boat so you can get a beach massage or enjoy the waters while waiting . The wildlife is NOT a jungle, its like a mini zoo where the animals are in a big cage and in sections. I'm not sure if this price ended up being cheaper or more expensive than bargaining in person since there is a lot of tour guides present.
Thanks for your feedback that why we always tell the guest print out your meeting instructions sheet and bring along the cruise line dont aloud us inside for pick up so yo have to meet us outside the gate and its a 5 to 8 minutes walk deppending how you moves
We had an amazing time on this excursion. The guide was waiting in the location indicated with a sign, which made pickup extremely easy. Once we were in the air-conditioned van, we were off on our adventure. It seems that our guide was in contact with the people at each of the stops, so we did them in the order that would ensure we didn't have to wait around. The first stop was the wildlife encounter, which was basically a small roadside zoo. We got to have a Perrot sit on our shoulder, pet sloths, and have monkeys jump around us and run over our arms. It really was way better than we expected. In addition, there were wild monkeys swinging around in the trees. Next up, we went to the glass-bottomed boat. If the tour is sold out, the boat is a bit crowded as they have two people on each seat. I'm 6'4'' and my legs were squeezed in a little, but I've endured worse, so no big deal. Looking out into the water and seeing the reef was a really fun experience. We saw tons of fish, sea turtles, coral, and more. We very much enjoyed this part of the tour. The rum tasting was at a shop that sold rum and rum cake, both of which were available to sample for free (and delicious). In addition, there is a deck area with some incredible views. Our amazing guide was always happy to step in and take some pictures of us. The chocolate tasting was another shop area where they gave you chocolate to try. This stop was pretty crowded, but we were able to move through without a problem, and the chocolate was really good. Our guide also gave us the option to stop at a place for lunch, which was nice of him. The food was ok, and the service was slow, but we had fun anyway. lol. Our guide, Foster, was really great. He kept us on schedule, was very nice, took some great pictures, and really made the whole experience unforgettable. We would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Roatan.
Our family enjoyed this tour and felt that we got to experience more on this tour than when booking through the cruise line. We first went to the animal park. The monkeys are a little crazy and bop from one person to another jumping on your arms & head. I decided not to go in the cage, but my kids thought it was great! We also got to pet the sloths. We all enjoyed the glass bottom boat ride. You get to stay dry while viewing the reef and ocean life. We saw 2 sea turtles, a stingray, and lots of fish. The restaurant we went to was pricey but if you walk up the beach there is a little grocery store with all types of snacks. We all enjoyed the experience!
