Beschreibung

Optional bieten wir Stopps bei El Faro/The Lighthouse and Roatan Rum Company an!

Do not book!!!

Do not book with this company — our experience raised serious safety concerns. We were told we would be picked up “just outside the port,” which was extremely misleading. In reality, we were required to walk nearly half a mile through what felt like an isolated and questionable area. There were no other tour groups around, and during the walk, my daughters were whistled at, which made the situation even more uncomfortable and concerning. When we finally arrived, it was not a designated or professional pickup location, but someone’s private property with several unmarked vehicles. We were then instructed to get into an unmarked, dirty van that had a child’s car seat inside — clearly a personal vehicle, not a licensed or professional tour transport. At that point, we felt completely unsafe. I told the “tour guide” we were uncomfortable, and we made the decision to leave immediately. The owner later texted us claiming everything was safe and explaining that the van was his personal vehicle used for his baby — which only reinforced our concerns about the lack of professionalism and proper safety standards. When we requested a refund due to these unsafe conditions, he initially refused, claiming we “canceled.” After repeated back-and-forth messages, he eventually agreed to a partial refund — which we still have not received. We are now disputing the charge with our credit card company. This experience was not only unprofessional but felt unsafe from start to finish. I strongly recommend booking with a reputable company that prioritizes customer safety.

Amazing snorkeling experience!

Beautiful water! We have snorkeled many places and this is the best we have experienced. We saw so many fish! Our guide, Mario, took care of us and treated us like family. Excellent communication prior to and during the trip. We did this excursion from a cruise port. This was perfect for all ages- we had a range of adventurous teenagers, a nervous 11 year old, and senior mother in law in the mix, and everyone enjoyed and participated! We learned a lot about the food, culture, people, and the island during this activity. Couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Fantastic snorkeling experience

Good experience with the tour operator and the guide, Mario. My kids and I got a private excursion. Mario picked us up from the port and took us to a convenient store. I should have purchased more items because the water was insanely cheap lol. He stopped by the Roatan sign and the rum company which is a must-see because of the views (see pics). You can see all of West Bay from the deck and the rum company was totally cool about us not wanting to buy or taste anything. The snorkeling was really great, our guide really knew where to take us. My only suggestions is that you do not venture off on your own to try to snorkel. He let us do that after the guided tour and we did not know what we were doing lol. It seems easy but the reefs are in shallow areas so it’s hard to navigate without hitting it. Overall great experience. Mario was super friendly and nice and accommodating. After the snorkeling we wanted to go back to the rum company and buy some things -cake and rum- and he was super nice about it. The tour comment said they would be sending us the underwater pictures that the guide took within 7-10 days, still waiting but expect them soon.

Private Snorkeling Trip

I’ve traveled all over and this is by far the best experience I’ve had with any company. Mario was the best! He really made everyone comfortable and feel like family. His knowledge of the area and reef is very impressive. 10 out of 10 and will definitely be flying back to spend more time.

Best snorkeling experience ever

Dani took our family of 8 snorkeling, hands down the best experience we've ever had. Dani was so kind, patient, informative, and really went the extra mile throughout our entire day with him. Dani's communication throughout our entire booking and day exceeded my expectations. The snorkeling was so beautiful and you can't go wrong by booking with him. Would recommend to everyone we can.

Tour guide was amazing; management was not.

I really rely on honest reviews to make my decisions as to what to do on port days so I will be very honest in my review. First, management - Dani is the one who schedules your tour and hires people to bring you on your tour. It appears they contract with independent vendors. I wanted to do the sloths and then my son wanted to snorkel in the West End. We paid when we booked online. Dani was responsive to questions via email before the tour. Our issue came when it came time to take the tour. Our meeting time was 8 am. At 7:32 am, I wrote Dani to let him know we were finishing breakfast on the ship and would be walking to the port. Walking from the ship to the port was about 10 minutes. It was not until we got out, past the port, on the road, that we realized RTGA was nowhere to be found. I saw all the other vendors (including one I canceled to go with RTGA). We had never been outside this port. Once on the street, the other vendors kept helping us try to find RTGA. It was then that we finally got a message that the tour would not start until 8:30 am. To be clear, I would not have minded receiving that email at breakfast in response to my email. However, Dani sent it just a couple minutes before 8 am when we were supposed to meet. It was extremely hot and humid that day. There was literally no place to take shade. If we walked back to the ship, we risked missing our guide that Dani said was on his way. As I said, other vendors were offering to help. Dani told us when we signed up to bring money for water, which we did, but we had no water or any place to get water during 30 minutes directly in the hot sun. When I talked to Dani, he acknowledged the error but said they were "only human" and that we needed to wait. My family was literally dripping with sweat. Dani said only a few more minutes. We were feeling dehydrated with no shade and no water. Dani also said there was likely a flat tire. (We later learned there was not a flat tire. ) Finally, after 20 minutes, I told Dani he had until 8:30 or I was going with one of the other kind vendors who had been trying to help. He begged me not to and told me he would discount our excursion cost for the wait. (He never did). When I told him we were uncomfortable, he told me several times that we should be calm and take deep breaths. That felt very patronizing. I reiterated how hot we were and that all the other cruise members had gone on their excursions. We were literally the only ones left with the other vendors, including the vendor I had originally booked with. At 8:30 am, our driver, Patrice, came just as we were setting up with another vendor. We elected to go with Patrice. The important thing to note is Dani does not give you your tour guide's direct information so he can alone manage it. If our guide had been in communication with us, we likely would have known after the first email we sent that we could take longer in the breakfast area and then come down. It wasn't the lateness, it was the timing of the notice, as well as the excuses that did not measure up, as well as the "deep breathing" after we had patiently waited and were uncomfortably hot and sweaty. Truly, after Dani's management, I didn't want anything to do with RTGA and was worried because I had never used them and we were the LAST family waiting on the street for our tour. Other cruisers wanted to know who we had used that left us waiting. I was afraid we had been scammed. Dani needs to give contact information for the guide so patrons can get up to date, firsthand information without waiting on him. We did go on the tour because our driver showed up. In addition, Dani had advertised snorkeling equipment would be provided but no fins are provided. We have taken several snorkeling tours and this is the first time that happened. There is ALOT of swimming without fins. Please consider if your health will allow extensive swimming. Water is not provided. You can bring money but you may not initially have a place to get any so bring multiple waters with you. Dani begged us to go on the tour and promised a discount. We never got one. Instead, after the tour, he promised another discount if we booked again when and if we came to Roatan. Review of Actual Tour - When Patrice showed up, it was evident it was likely his error in coming late. He had to come from the West End. He was extremely kind and sincere in apologizing. He was real. No flat tire excuse. No patronizing, just a sincere young man. Again, my issue was not with the lateness, it was the lack of management and sole control by Dani that forced us to wait in the hot son instead of keeping up with what was going on. Having said all that, 5 stars to Patrice. He is from Canada and likely in his 20's like my son. They got along great. Patrice took us to the sloths, had us wait in the air conditioner, and went on our tour with us. It was delightful. Patrice then drove us to the West End and took us snorkeling. Beautiful snorkeling. Just note, they do not provide fins. Patrice said it was to protect the reef. However, other tours provided fins. This only makes a difference because you will need to be a strong swimmer and swim quite a distance. With fins, it is nothing. Without them, you are literally swimming for quite a while. It was worth it, but please consider if you are able to do this. We found fins make a difference. They also provide no water since they use the boats of individuals in Roatan. You need to buy water before getting on the boat. Just FYI. After the snorkeling, we expressed how much we enjoyed the tour. Patrice again apologized and offered a lunch place. We took Patrice to lunch. Excellent food and very kind people. Thoroughly enjoyed lunch. Then, even though it was not booked, Patrice offered to show us the shopping strip on West End. He picked places we would like. We loved it so much. We were able to get one of a kind gifts. He took us to buy chocolate. He took us to the Rusty Fish (highly recommended) where they use recycled material to make unique, fun gifts. Patrice got us back to the ship in time to board. We hated to say goodbye to him. I cannot stress what a great guide he was. I have done business internationally and I appreciate so much someone who is forthright and cares. Patrice was all of these things and knew the area well. If I could book directly with Patrice again, I would do it in a heartbeat. In closing, the excursion was 5 star. The management was not. If I had communication directly with Patrice, I honestly believe it would be a whole different experience. When I was given the flat tire excuse and told to "deep breathe" while we were dripping sweat in the hot sun, it didn't feel like Dani understood the issue and made promises/excuses just to keep the booking. Then, when he promised the discount, and did not provide it unless we rebook, I was done with RTGA. I separate these two issues because every other vendor there was so helpful and kind. The people are truly amazing. The tour was excellent. It just needed to be managed better. You may not have an issue and I hope you don't, but, if you do, be prepared to breathe deeply and sweat alot. Added recommendations: Rusty Fish store on West End, Food from El Savador on the West End (La Ruta del Sabor) We loved Patrice!! We thank him for his incredible service and help.

Hi Michele Nigliazzo, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it. I will try my best to respond to every concern/issue mentioned in your review and I do this not to go against you, but so that you are aware from our perspective what happened and more importantly, to give our potential guests the other side of the story. First of all, I’m sorry that we picked you up at 8:26am instead of 8am. I received a notification from your initial tour guide that he had a flat tire 10-15 minutes before picking you up. I don’t know why you say that you “learned there wasn’t a flat tire”? Perhaps you thought I was talking about Patrice (the tour guide who picked you up)? Anyways, I wasn’t talking about Patrice, I was talking about your original tour guide. Not sure why you say there wasn’t a flat tire, but yes, there was and that’s why I called Patrice, who thankfully happened to be at his home when I called him (about 20 minutes away). As soon as we received your initial tour guide’s notification of the flat tire, we sent you an email to ask you if you could meet us later and that we would be there at 8:30am at the latest. In fact, we were able to get you on the phone but sadly, you were already out of the port. Regardless, we did our best to inform you as soon as possible of the situation and even though you warned us that you would cancel if we didn’t show up by 8:30am, I had already told Patrice to get there as soon as possible and knew that he’d be there earlier than that. I also asked him to thoroughly apologize on behalf of the company and to make it up to you. I’d like to add that I was the one who told Patrice exactly where to take you (including the lunch spot. In fact, my Gf tells me how I’m going to become a Pupusa because I eat there 3 times a week and love it. Im probably their number 1 customer and always ask my guides to bring our guests there for a true authentic meal). I was also the one who told Patrice to add the shopping in West End after your snorkel. I too personally trained Patrice (and all of the guides on our team) to provide the service we do. Moreover, I showed him the 3 snorkel spots we take people to, so that when he snorkels with our guests he knows exactly where to go. I make sure that all of our guides are people who care about others and that are people who understand how to provide excellent service. I want to add that less than a year ago, it was only my girlfriend and I doing tours. Initially it was only me! Now, we have around 20 guides that do our tours. After my girlfriend and I brought our tour guide association into the #1 spot in the Transportation and Food and Drinks categories on Trip Advisor (and we still are), I started hiring other people as we were getting more and more tours. We worked super hard to achieve this. When we started growing, I started looking for people to join our team and 5 months ago, when my first baby was born, my girlfriend stopped doing tours and I was trying to send most of the tours to our guides so that I could also stay at home and spend time with the family. This is specially important in my baby’s younger years. This has brought a lot of challenges, specially with unforeseen situations (like your original tour guide’s flat tire). When doing the tours ourselves (My Gf and I) we never got anything less than 5 stars, but now, we’ve gotten a couple of 4 star reviews. Nonetheless, we will make sure that these situations don’t happen again and we feel terribly sorry for making you wait on your tour date, but please understand that it was a human error like I mentioned in our phone conversation, it’s something we can’t control, sometimes these things happen and we can only ask for our guest’s patience, empathy and understanding. Remember you’re coming to a place with limited resources (unlike the US) and it’s filled with potholes and new construction sites. I have to repair flat tires a lot, I promise! Secondly, I want to clarify that I never meant to patronize you. When we spoke on the phone, you told us that you felt uncomfortable outside the port. Given that I felt for you guys in that moment (as I know there’s a lot of vendors who are trying to hustle at the port), I advised for you to come inside the port while you waited for Patrice. It would’ve been easy for me to let you know when Patrice was outside so that you could be inside and not outside and then walk out when you received my notification that he was there. Regardless, I knew you were safe, as Roatan is super safe, safer than any US city. I know because I have lived in the US and my whole family live in the US. Nevertheless, I went ahead and told you “I know it’s overwhelming and I apologize, you can always come into the port and relax inside while you wait for us”. I’m sorry that you took it the wrong way. Also, I told you to “take deep breathes and that we would be there very soon, I promise”. Never did I mean to disrespect you or patronize you. In fact, I was using my most empathetic tone of voice and trying to be as kind as possible to you. I would like to emphasize that the communication on the phone was breaking up and perhaps that might’ve been the reason why you misunderstood me. The signal around the port is really bad when cruises come in, I imagine it’s due to the thousands of people walking around and using their phones. I apologize for this. Thirdly, I know that is was hot and humid that day (as everyday in Roatan). We can’t really do anything about that. We are very clear in our tour product description and welcome email (pickup instructions email) to mention that we don’t include food and drinks on our tours. Also, we ask for you to bring cash in order to buy water, drinks, etc. When you were walking out of the Port, there were at least 10 stores that sold water. I’m sorry that when you walked out of the port to meet us and that you had not bought any water yet. Also, I did recommended you to wait for us inside the port and that way you could’ve grabbed water. It’s a really small port and it would’ve been easy to get water., you were less than 5 minute walking distance from the nearest vendor inside the port or 1 minute (literally) from the nearest vendor outside the port (where you were). All the stores right by the exit where you were are selling water. Regardless, I’m sorry for the heat/humidity on Roatan. I always tell my guests that I’m still not used to the humidity/heat here even though I’ve been on the island for over 6 years. Moreover, I want to talk about the fins. I’m certain that Patrice was very clear in letting you know why we don’t use them but here it goes from my end. When we started doing snorkeling tours, half of the time I’d come back feeling bad and mad at myself. A lot of my guests were hitting the reef with the fins. I’m an environmentalist, vegetarian and an animal’s advocate in Honduras. I’m the chocolate making class teacher on the island and I talk about jaguar conservation almost every day. Moreover, the reef is also our main attraction on Roatan so we really need to make sure we protect it. Even “expert divers” would hit the reef with the fins. Therefore, I decided that we were not goin to use fins on our tours and guess what, not a reef has been touched or hit since then. I rather protect the reef, which is really important to our livelihoods and ecosystems and have people put a little more effort into the swimming. Besides, we don’t force any of our guests to swim a lot, since the reef is literally there and you can still appreciate it with minimal swimming. In fact, that’s one reason why Roatan is visited so much and why people love it, due to the proximity of its reef. Nonetheless, when our guests insist about fins, we can always provide them, even if we advise against them. Patrice is new to our team, and I’m not sure if he forgot to mention it or didn’t identify your need for them and forgot to offer them regardless. I'd also like to mention that I always stop with my guests at the gas station and buy them water before snorkeling (my treat). I will remind Patrice and all of our guides to do it on our snorkel tours (and yes, I will cover that expense). Moreover, upon this review, I have added into our welcome email that the use of fins even though discouraged, can happen if our guests need them so as to make sure people who need them, get them with the condition of being extra careful with them. Furthermore, I want to let you know that we indeed applied the refund to you. However, we had to wait for the money to be withdrawn into our account and then send it to you. The $50 I gave back to you are our earnings (RTGA’s/my family’s) after paying all of our providers, boat captain, all fees and Patrice. I just want to let you know that I’d rather give you your money back than know that you left feeling unfairly charged or something like that. Even though the tour took place and all you had to wait was 25 minutes, I wanted to make it up to you and that’s why I offered the refund. Sadly, today when I was checking all of the reviews that we haven’t responded to I saw yours and realized that you mentioned that we didn’t give you the refund. I imagine that when you wrote the review, you had not gotten the refund yet. I apologize that the refund wasn’t immediate. Additionally, I want to express my sadness in the fact that you don’t view Patrice as a representation of our association. Perhaps he wasn’t clear in expressing our apologies on our behalf or forgot to remind you that he was representing us and not himself. Just as we (RTGA)were the ones at fault for the flat tire and making you wait (although it was specifically one of our tour guide’s car (not mine per say), who we obviously don’t blame for a human accident) it was also our management that got you Patrice just 25 minutes later and who showed you (through him) a great time on the island. Hopefully other people reading this will acknowledge this fact. If not, please refer to all of our 5 star reviews. This is one of the only two 4 star reviews we have, so we’ll let you be the judge. Finally, I sincerely apologize for having to make you wait, its something that I couldn’t control and did my best to solve asap. I hope that you don’t deter from visiting us again and if you come back, we’ll set you up with Patrice again (we love him too!) Also, thanks for giving the excursion, which I designed and trained our guides to do, a 5 star rating. Sincerely, Dani

Great guide, great experience!

Andres was our guide for our snorkeling/ horseback riding tour. We also did some shopping and lunch. Definitely recommend a guided tour. Andres was amazing! He made sure he was right there for pick up which was great as the.port is very crowded. Also the horseback riding company was very nice and very attentive. The best part of our day was snorkeling! Andres showed us some great spots and we saw a huge manta ray! We also appreciated the help with picking some amazing shops and how much we learned from him about the culture as well. He was a very good guide and hope others have the opportunity to meet him.
