Beschreibung

Night Walk

The start of the walk was a little unorthodox meeting at the end of a road in the forest in the dark. We were all wandering if we were in the right place when Ian turned up at 7:30 Fortunately we were in the right place. Ian provided spotlights which was great. The walk goes for two hours and seems to be partly around and underneath the zip lining area. So while it may have never been logged I don't know I would call it pristine wilderness with piping, window lights, engine noise, wooden platforms, gravel, sheds etc but that's very understandable. A lot of the track was wet, and uneven with rocks so bring suitable shoes as you are also walking in the dark. We mostly saw some insects, arachnids and amphibians as well as lots of plants. I was sad we didn't find any lizards. Ian was clearly very, very knowledgeable about all the species living in the forest. Although it is kind of hard to chat when you are trying to be stealthy at the same time. Apparently June is not a great time of year for seeing stuff so keep that in mind. It was mostly fun just walking in the dark in the rainforest. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was pretty reasonably priced at $50. Don't expect to see any mammals though

Tripadvisor Thank you for taking time to review us. I understand your take on the pristine and will reword our blog. Your points are all valid, well except the mammals one. The Daintree Rainforest contains 25% of the continents mammal species. Our take on pristine is it hasn’t been altered by humans actions. The ‘engine’ noise is a hydro turbine and the 25mm black polypipe are the residence who live along Camelot Close only water supply as I outlined on the walk. Part of the properties advanced ecotourism and climate action leader certification is ‘social responsibility’ there is no government infrastructure for power or water in the Cape Tribulation, the residence down the hill run the pipe up to our turbine to use the outflow for their domestic needs. Only the driveway is gravelled, the shed and its window lights are on the driveway and the rest is natural. We do have six trails only one has the Treetops canopy tour infrastructure and hydro water line on it however, this track statistically provides the most wildlife sightings and we definitely see mammals, if we move quietly. I did explain we are just after Jasper a cyclone which was declared a ‘natural disaster’ due to the flooding it generated so understandable that forest takes time to recover. Thank you again for bothering to review us if I had known this would affect your experience I would have chosen another trail. If you are ever back in the area I will take you on our ‘wildest track’ where fewer people have walked than have climbed Mount Everest.

No communication

Tour was cancelled but we weren’t informed so we travelled and then sat waiting for someone to show up. Understand that safety’s first and wouldn’t want to jeopardize anything in the rain forest but you had my email, mobile and the Viator app to contact me through.. I messaged through the app to see if it was going ahead and you replied saying cancelled, so you could’ve actually done that during the day and we could’ve made other arrangements for our holiday..

Thank you N. for not posting maliciousness in your review under circumstances that were far from ideal for you. Your exemplary character makes our sorrowfulness about disappointing you that much keener. Ian

Night walk with kane

What a bloke. Kane lives and breathes the rain forest. What he didn't know wasn't worth knowing. The walk should have been 90 mins but because we was interested it last 3 hours . Wow definitely worth going

Antwort des Anbieters

He is a good lad, but not our tour, they are Ferntrees Resort call their tours Far North Escapes. Glad you enjoyed your tour. It is folks like you we love up here, not many would stay interested for three hours on a 1 kilometer boardwalk.

A unique nighttime experience.

We were a small group of 8. It was such a privilege to experience this amazing rainforest in the dark. Ian was so helpful prior to booking and his informal humorous talk and walk through the forest was a joy. Whilst the mammals exercised their right to stay hidden we did get to see lizards, spiders, frogs, insects, bugs and wetas up close and personal. Going through the rainforest in the dark with torchlight was a unique experience, my husband and I learnt so much about the unique habitat the Daintree Rainforest is. Would certainly recommend.

So so grateful for you taking the time to post this positive review and were appreciative about our small group ethos. It is a difficult balance. Never ‘all about profit’ however, we would love to take everyone who wants to go but wildlife and forest well being are paramount. We are stoked you had an enjoyable experience. Our tours are more spontaneous than pre-scripted some don’t ‘get us’ glad you did. Thanks again Ian

Rain in the Rainforest

This Jungle Escapes tour was absolutely amazing and a must if you enjoy wildlife and nature. A big thank you to Ian for getting me situated - I had a hiccup with my reservation the first night but he allowed me to move it to the following night. The night of the tour itself was so incredible. Up in Cape Trib for a week, I had gone on quite a few “night walks” myself on the Dubuji boardwalk. This experience was unparalleled though - exclusive access in unlogged rainforest… during the rain. Nat (I believe that was her name?) was our tour guide and she was super informative and was able to spot all sorts of plants and critters and tell us about them. We saw snails, stick bugs, crickets with MASSIVE antennae, heaps of spiders, bioluminescent fungi… but the highlight of the night for me was seeing not one, but TWO Boyd’s forest dragons. I was very pleased by the tour’s approach to the wildlife. They asked us not to shine our lights at them due to them sleeping at night and their sensitive eyes. I don’t think a lot of tours would have that same respect for wildlife. To add to the ambience of the tour… 1/3 of the way through, a deluge of rain began. But hey - that’s the rainforest. Huge thank you to the Jungle Escapes team for making my last night in Cape Tribulation so wonderful!

Such a pleasure to guide people with a holistic view of the experience of being in the forest at night. So many ‘wildlife accountants’ who are so focused on what ‘critters’ they did or didn’t see, missing out on the magic and majesty the forest offers up. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed as they are ‘wild’. We usually see a good representation of those seasonally around and if you can ‘Attenborough’ it up even bugs can be interesting if you know their story. So glad you enjoyed, have a great life and keep that ‘glass half full’ view of the world.

Not sure about this

Well. Nothing much to see. The guide was a lovely and knowledgeable girl and that Meade the walk better however lack of every made it a bit of a bad walk.

We are sorry your expectations weren't met, we are also sorry to the other guests whose tour was delayed awaiting your late arrival; We clearly state on our website we are a holistic experience and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed; you took the time to offer this review and a like wise negative review of your accomodation; more time than required to visit our website to research. Perhaps come to the tropics in Summer not Winter when some species are ‘overwintering’ if you are all about seeing the ‘animals’; We are not simply a wildlife spotlight tour - You walked for two hours in pristine unlogged old growth rainforest, the oldest rainforest, world heritage “nothing much to see!” except 1,000 year old trees of more species than any other forest, with only 5 others and a ‘girl’ who has grown up in this forest and studied it and for only 50 bucks.

I can't believe what there is to see in the darkness.

Alone at night in the rainforest - No! But no problem with Ian. He knows this patch of forest like his pocket and knows exactly what to look out for. In the darkness and "armed" only with a flashlight we marched off. Ian showed us bats, flying dogs, a toad, fluorescent bacteria, a tiny scorpion, spiders and a snake, among other things, over a distance of less than 2 kilometres. But we also learned a lot about the rainforest itself and its importance for the whole ecosystem. I can only recommend this tour. It's worth it and don't be afraid of poisonous animals: they're not after you!

No tour!

Booked a night tour with Jungle Escapes for 25th Feb 2023 through Marty at Visit Cairns - printed off our voucher, which told us to go to the starting point (end of Camelot Close) at 7:15pm. We waited from 7:10pm to 7:40pm but no-one arrived. We tried the number (+61407734702) a few times but it went to voicemail each time (we also left a message). We then walked back along the 1km ish road and didn't see anyone along the way. A shame as this was what we were looking forward to the most in Cape Tribulation, and the previous reviews were so good. We were very disappointed with the whole experience.

Antwort des Anbieters

Hi Jennie We are truly sorry! We tried to contact you however the contact details provided to us just received a “message send failure”. We messaged Marty on the 18th Feb to inform him that your booking couldn’t be done & we couldn’t contact you & we had to close tours till March due to the fact that due to the recent rains we have had to close our trails for customer safety and minimise environmental impact from foot traffic on sodden trails. We operate through Old Growth pristine Rainforest in a World Heritage area and we take our obligations to protect and preserve very seriously. We sincerely apologise and would be more than happy to provide our experience to you free of charge if you are ever in the neighbourhood.

Ecological adventure at night

One of the highlights of this walk, is learning that people like Ian are doing their part to protect parts of the world that would otherwise be ruined by commercial development. The experience itself was great and Ian is incredibly knowledgable. We walked in September 2022, which is unusually cold so quite pleasant for us. We spotted both a short nosed and long nosed bandicoot, leaf tailed gecko, green tree frog, Boyd's forest dragon, a few huntsman spiders, glowing lichen, and were educated on the various flora and fauna in the area. I must admit that I was nervous about heading out into the rainforest at night, surrounded by bugs and with threats of snakes and spiders, but the experience was far from that at this time of year. Thanks Ian!

Thank you for being a kindred soul and caring about the world we are handing to those that follow. We are stocked you enjoyed our experience, perhaps you can revisit when the forest is really 'cranking'; Summer and Autumn, and we can try and get that extra star. Yalada Ola & Ian

Great night walk to really feel the rainforest

Such a great night discovering the rainforest creatures of the night! The guide was great fun and very knowledgeable, and looks after everyone in the group. Would highly recommend to see a side not commonly seen in such a beautiful unique place, through a local business genuinely interested in supporting the conservation of the area.

Thank you Chris for taking the time to review. We are 'stoked' you enjoyed your experience and are appreciative of our conservation efforts your valuable patronage helps to support. hopefully we will meet again down the road. Ian
