Our tour was canceled due to the opening of the dam up river, which is understandable, so I can’t really comment on the tour my grandsons and I had been waiting to do during their yearly visit. The reason I gave a poor rating is because the Rowing company didn’t notify us until a couple of hours before our scheduled tour even though the opening of the dam happened at least 24 hours before. They should have anticipated the lake closure the day before, not after we drove all the way to Austin, paid for parking, and were severely disappointed by an email. Please text or call next time! Please consider closures as expected every time dams are opened. Better communication is needed. I fault the Rowing company, not Viator, for this issue.
A must-do in Austin. Like many who look up "Austin Bats" online, the in-person experience of seeing them is hit and miss. We saw bats! Just not the dramatic black-out sensation I had in my head. Our tour guide Bo was FAB-U-LOUS! Funny, personable, knowledgeable. Hits on all the topics - history, biology, architecture. I learned a lot! Glad I booked through TripAdvisor - I save about $10 over their sticker price.
I was fun, informative and fantastic to be on the lake! Ethan is a great host and I plan to do this again!
Equipment and guide we're great! The group was much larger than the 12 max advertised, which made the paddle slow and disjointed with a lot of floating time. We did see bats, but found out that this is a slower time of year as they are birthing and less active. Sounds like it's more active after the babies are born. Overall very well organized and a lot of fun.
It was an awesome tour and a fun experience! Our teenager enjoyed and we did as well. Remember to take off your sunglasses, though!
Our guides Katie and Lauren were so calm and knowledgeable. It was easy, fun and such a grear way to see the skyline. The bats were fun to see as well.
On this night the bats were not as prolific as I had hoped. Perhaps I was mislead by photos of swarms of bats flying against a dusky sky. That said, we saw many bats especially in the red lights tour guides used to illuminate them. The paddle on Lady bird lake was very nice. Guides did a nice job. I recommend this tour but caution paddlers not to expect swarms of bats emerging at one time. Their emergence occurs over about 30 minutes. Overall a very nice experience.
Our guide Bo was fantastic. Lovely time to be on the lake. Kayaks were great. Lots of fun, lots of good information ! Super experience! Be warned that even if you are careful you will get wet, so dress to get wet!
The tour was a slow and steady pace which was perfect for an evening kayak tour. We were able to see some natural wildlife and got a lot of information from our tour guide. The bat viewing was a cherry on top to end the tour.
Holden was amazing. He was full of knowledge and def a people person. Being out on the water at nighttime was an awesome experience. Do it!
