Das Mandela House liegt in der pulsierenden Gemeinde Soweto, einem Akronym für „South Western Townships“. Soweto spielte eine entscheidende Rolle im Kampf gegen die Apartheid und ist von immenser historischer und kultureller Bedeutung.
Hector Pieterson war ein 13-jähriger Junge, der während des Soweto-Aufstands am 16. Juni 1976 auf tragische Weise sein Leben verlor. Der Soweto-Aufstand war ein von Studenten angeführter Protest gegen die Politik der Apartheidsregierung, Bildung in Afrikaans durchzusetzen.

Our driver was excellent he explained everything as we were driving. Thabang, our driver let us experience the city at our pace and the things we were especially interested in. Thabang has a great personality. This was an excellent experience.
