Die Lage von Maungauika am Eingang zum Waitematā-Hafen machte es zu einer wichtigen Küstenverteidigung. Es war die Angst vor einer russischen Invasion in den 1880er Jahren, die zum Bau einer Festung und den drei verschwundenen Geschützbatterien führte, die entlang der Maunga (Berg) verstreut waren.
Mount Eden ist der höchste Vulkan unter den 52 Vulkanen Aucklands. Es ist 196 m hoch. Vom Gipfel aus können Sie einen spektakulären Blick auf die Stadt und ihre Häfen genießen.
Der Cornwall Park ist der größte Vulkanpark in Auckland. Ein weiterer Park befindet sich im Cornwall Park, dem "One Tree Hill". Es gibt viele Bäume und Tiere in diesem Park. Sie können die großartige Natur im Stadtzentrum spüren.
Die Holy Trinity Cathedral ist das weltweit einzige architektonische Beispiel einer pazifisch-gotischen Kathedrale. Sie können sofort ein Gefühl von Größe und Schönheit spüren. Sie können auch die St. Mary Church sehen, die fast ausschließlich aus Heart Kauri, einem in Neuseeland heimischen Holz, gebaut ist und eine der wenigen Holzkirchen der Welt ist, die im gotischen Stil gebaut wurden.

Das Auckland War Memorial Museum ist Neuseelands erstes Museum. Das Auckland Museum wurde 1852 in einem Bauernhaus mit zwei Zimmern im zentralen Vorort Grafton von Auckland gegründet und ist dafür bekannt, national und international bedeutende Sammlungen zu besitzen.

This is actually a review of the half-day tour (see below). Well organized. It includes the highlights that you want to see when you have a short time in Auckland. Tour guide Sean was great. Friendly, accommodating, informative. We booked the full day tour, but the only difference was that was to it include a trip to the War Memorial Museum (ticket NOT included). But the vast majority of the museum happened to be closed that day. But the tour company reimbursed the difference (not including the Viator commission). Kudos to them.

Our guide was amazing! She was punctual & courteous and guided as through the most amazing highlights with great knowledge of each one of them. All of it was just breathtakingly beautiful. The history of Mount Eden & One Tree Hill was very interesting. Our final stop was at the Kew Gardens showcasing a Winter Garden, the Temperate House and the Fernery. We couldn’t have asked for more. The tour was accompanied by a great guide. We never had time pressure and a lot was explained. All described points were approached. There were only two of us on the road with the guide. Finally there was a slideshow of the pictures he took with us, via WhatsApp. Really great!!

Had a blast going around with Lenna, our tour guide, who brought us all around Auckland. She was lovely and when the weather turned bad, she did everything she could to make it comfortable for us. Her charm and humour truly got to us both. She was very knowledgeable about the city, shared her own anecdotes and her own experiences with the city. Highly recommended for those who are looking to get to best bits of Auckland in a relatively quick fashion.
