Das Nationalmuseum zählt zu den bedeutendsten in Subsahara-Afrika. Weit und breit ist das Highlight die paläontologische Ausstellung im Keller, der Heimat der weltberühmten Lucy. Ihre Entdeckung 1974 in der Region Afar im Nordwesten Äthiopiens veränderte unser Verständnis von menschlichen Ursprüngen für immer. Hier ist auch der fossile Nachweis einiger erstaunlicher ausgestorbener Lebewesen, wie dem massiven Säbelzahn-Katzen Homotherium und dem riesigen Savannenschwein Notochoerus. Die Peripherie des Erdgeschosses konzentriert sich auf die voraksumitische, aksumitische, salomonische und gonderianische Zeit. Zu den zahlreichen Artefakten gehören eine aufwendige Bronze-Öllampe aus der Zeit vor dem 1. Jahrhundert, die einen Hund zeigt, der einem Steinbock nachjagt, ein faszinierender Stuhl aus dem 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr., der mit mythischen Steinböcken verziert ist, und alte sabäische Inschriften. Auf der 1. Etage finden Sie eine lebendige Ausstellung äthiopischer Kunst, die von Pergament aus dem frühen (möglicherweise 14. Jahrhundert) bis zu Leinwandölbildern führender moderner Künstler aus dem 20. Jahrhundert reicht.
Das Ethnologische Museum von Addis Abeba ist eines der besten ethnographischen Museen in Ostafrika. Es lässt die Besucher alles über die verschiedenen kulturellen Gruppen Äthiopiens verstehen mit seiner großartigen Präsentation, die sich auf den Lebenszyklus konzentriert - von der Geburt bis zum Tod. Geschichte, Religion, Esskultur und natürliche Fakten des Landes werden so schön beschrieben.
Mercato ist der größte Outdoor-Markt nicht nur in Addis Abeba oder Äthiopien, sondern in ganz Afrika. Zu den wichtigsten Teilen von Merkato gehören der Gewürzmarkt, der Markt für handgemachte Körbe und der Gebrauchtwarenmarkt.
Der Naturpark Entoto erhebt sich hoch über der Hauptstadt und ist ein historisches Heiligtum. Natur aus der verschleierten Antike. Ein einzigartiger Ort, um die atemberaubendste alte Bergnatur zu entdecken, mit Bächen, die aus klaren Quellen und Wasserfällen fließen.
Im Auftrag von Kaiser Menelik II. zum Gedenken an seine beeindruckende Niederlage gegen die Italiener 1896 in Adwa, gewidmet dem Heiligen Georg (Äthiopiens Schutzpatron), dessen Ikone in die Schlacht getragen wurde, ist diese Piazza Kathedrale eine der schönsten Kirchen Addis. Das graue Äußere aus Stein wird von den Farb- und Kunstblitzen des Innenraums leicht übertroffen. Teile der Decke leuchten himmelblau und rühmen sich vergoldeter Sterne, während die Außenwände des innersten Schreins mit Gemälden und Mosaiken des renommierten Afewerks Tekle verkleidet sind. Die Kirche, die in traditionell achteckiger Form und im strengen neoklassizistischen Stil erbaut wurde, wurde 1911 mit Hilfe griechischer, armenischer und indischer Künstler fertiggestellt. Kaiserin Zewditu (1916) und Kaiser Haile Selassie (1930) wurden hier beide gekrönt.

I have a great time touring city of Addis Ababa on Nov 29 2025. The guide Dagi pick me up from hotel lobby on time. He is fluent in English. He possesses an easy going personality. He has great knowledge of Ethiopia and Addis Ababa on history, culture and current affairs. He explains things very clearly. I gain a lot knowledge from him by listening and asking questions. We have a traditional Ethiopian meal and coffee which is a plus for the exposure of the Ethiopian culture. The driver Suta is polite and professional. He keeps the car clean and comfortable. When I try to take photos from the road, he always slow down and find a good spot for me. His driving skill makes me feeling confident. In addition, he is fairly good in English. He can also provide some valuable insights of Addis Ababa. I highly recommend the tour without reservation.

We took our tour with Teddy and Sultan. Teddy is very knowledable about Ethiopian History and an excellent guide. Our tour included the Mercato, the palace of the Emperor Haile Selassie, coffee house and a traditional Ethiopian Meal at a local coffee house/restaurant. Very personalized and we had a great time.
