Schließen Sie Ihre Galle-Tagestour ab und besuchen Sie die erstaunlichen Stilt Fishermen in Weligama. Die Fischer sitzen auf einer Querstange, die an einer senkrechten Stange befestigt ist, die mit einer Hand im Korallenriff und im Pfahl gepflanzt wird, und setzen mit der anderen Hand Ruten- und Schnurfang. Die Praxis des Stelzenfischens begann etwa 50 Jahre nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges, als die Fischer feststellten, dass der Fischfang an den Felsen, die über das Meer ragten, nicht ausreichte, um Fische in großer Zahl zu fangen. Mit seiner turbulenten Geschichte aus mehreren Jahrhunderten machte die strategische Lage der Stadt die Stadt zu einem Knotenpunkt für den Seehandel und später zum Landeplatz der Kolonialherren der Insel. Ein Fort wurde errichtet, um die portugiesische Stadt im Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts zu schützen und zu erhalten. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde sie von den Niederländern umfangreich befestigt. Ursprünglich war das Fort eine erdige Struktur mit Palisaden, einem Wall und drei Bastionen und einem Burggraben. Unter der Kontrolle der Niederländer errichteten sie uneinnehmbare Befestigungen aus Korallen- und Granitsteinen. Das Fort ähnelte einer kleinen, ummauerten Stadt mit einem rechteckigen Gitternetz von Straßen voller niedriger Häuser mit Giebeln und Veranden.

Tsunami Photo Museum - Ihr nächster Stopp ist das Tsunami Photo Museum in Talwatte. Nach dem verheerenden Tsunami von 2004, der Sri Lanka zusammen mit vielen anderen Ländern getroffen hatte, war der Aufholprozess langsam, langwierig und beschwerlich. Die Küstenregionen waren am stärksten betroffen, und die Neuentwicklung setzt sich fort, wobei die körperliche und psychosoziale Rehabilitation einer der wichtigsten Bereiche ist. Um den Prozess zu erleichtern, damit die Menschen über die Schrecken des Tsunamis sprechen und sich artikulieren können, sowie um einen Ort zu schaffen, an dem Schönheit und Kunst noch im Überfluss vorhanden sind, wurde das Tsunami-Fotomuseum eingerichtet. Es ist ein vollständig gemeinnütziges Museum, das freien Eintritt bietet und Zeichnungen, Gemälde, Fotografien - Kunst in all ihrer Pracht - enthält, um eine Geschichte von jedem Menschen zu erzählen, der den Tsunami von 2004 miterlebt hat.

I had a pleasant experience. The pickup was on time and Mr.Deshan was kind and patient. Some places were not included and we skipped Gem factory. Be prepared for scorching heat. Food was very bad in quality and taste.

Had a great day out with Chamika. So many experiences packed in to one day - beautiful beaches, historic sites and a really interesting insight into Ayurvedic herbs and their uses. The ride was comfortable and cool and the lunch we chose (rice and curry set) was authentic and served while the waves lapped only meters away. Highly recommend this one day tour with Chamika.

After completing a 7-day tour of Sri Lanka, we booked a day tour from Colombo to Galle, as this part of the country was not on our tour itinerary. Pick up at our hotel was seamless. We are so glad that we visited this part of the country. The day was jam-packed with highlights, and our driver/guide Deshan was excellent. He was knowledgeable and friendly and adjusted the tour to suit our needs. He provided some fantastic suggestions for other stops. The Dutch Fort was much bigger than I expected and fascinating to explore. The gem museum was very informative. The staff there were not all about just trying to make a sale. The tsunami museum was somber, and the turtle hatchery was brilliant. It was a great final day in Sri Lanka
