Castello war einer der frühesten besiedelten Teile Venedigs (5. bis 6. Jahrhundert). Der Stadtteil verdankt seinen Namen der dort stehenden Burg, die den Schutz vor Angriffen aus dem Meer bot. Hier ist das alte Arsenal, das ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Lebens der Republik war. Kathedrale von San Pietro di Castello Für viele Jahrhunderte stand die Kathedrale unter der Autorität des Patriarchen von Grado. Im Jahr 1451 erhielt Venedig einen eigenen Patriarchen. daher wurde die Kirche Kathedrale. Infolge der Würden, die 1807 von Napoleon unterdrückt wurden, wurde San Marco (Markus) die neue Kathedrale, und anstatt nur eine Kapelle des Dogen zu sein, wurde sie Sitz des Patriarchen Antico Arsenale (Altes Arsenal) Es ist an seinen Terrakotta-Wänden und Quadrattürmen zu erkennen. Ab dem dreizehnten Jahrhundert war es ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Lebens der Republik.

Nadia , came with a wonderful taxi boat pick me up at the train stations from the beginning she makes me at ease and explain how Venice was built and why on the water ! She is from Venice very knowledgeable the most for me was that she takes you out of the beaten path , that you can really enjoy what Venice is all about and can hear all the history she explain so well !!!
