I had one of those incredible life experiences that change one forever. My TripAdvisor photo tour guide for the near vernal equinox morning, was not only a professional who freely gave of their insight and technical expertise, but also was easily relatable with on a personal level. Dhiraj knew just where and when to go to facilitate and elevate my photography. We made shots at the ghats early in the morning and then moved to the city streets. Dhiraj was a perfect guide for me, a serious amateur photographer with acceptable skills, but wanting to improve and learn from an expert. It was clear that anyone could benefit from touring with him, from beginner to likely even a professional. Dhiraj always was quick to answer questions and provide suggestions when asked, but he allowed me explore and express myself by shooting my own choices, never pushing. At one point I was exasperated because I’d just burned my last memory card. He was quick to the rescue and provided a card immediately. Issue solved; and for me, he and I created a friendship that I believe will continue over time and wherever we are “capturing the light.” I highly recommend the tour with Dhiraj - it will change your photography, and may even change your life!!! This was easily one of the best experiences I’ve had in India. Dhiraj personally picked me up on his scooter from my hotel (Ramada Plaza, Cantonment area), which was a fun and memorable way to start the morning. From there, he arranged an absolutely magical sunrise photo session on the Ganga with a Shaiva sadhu on a boat. Even though I only had my iPhone, he made sure I got amazing shots. He also brought his professional camera and offered to send me all the high-quality images he captured, which was incredibly generous. Beyond the photography itself, Dhiraj is simply a super fun guy to hang out with. He’s relaxed, easy to talk to, and has a great sense of humor. But he’s also extremely knowledgeable. After the boat ride, we walked along the ghats, and he explained the rituals, history, and significance of the cremation sites with clarity and respect. As someone born and raised in Varanasi, living right near the ghats, he shares stories and insights you would never get from a standard guide. We stopped for fresh chai from a local vendor, talked about life in Varanasi, and soaked in the morning atmosphere. It felt less like a tour and more like spending a few hours with a friend who genuinely wants you to experience his city the right way. For any Western travelers, photographers, or anyone hoping to truly understand and feel the spiritual energy of Varanasi while also getting incredible photos, I highly recommend this tour. Dhiraj goes above and beyond, and this experience was a highlight of my entire trip.

Thoroughly enjoyed the photo walking tour with Dhiraj Goswami. Getting up early made all the difference in getting some excellent shots. He knew great places to go and fantastic perspectives to shoot from. We explored a lot in the time we had together, and I got some fantastic shots. During the photowalk, he shared many local perspectives and gained a glimpse into the Varanasi street photography community. This photo tour has been without any doubt the highlight of my stay in Varanasi! . Dhiraj is trully a wonderful human being, generous, solar, fun and a gifted photographer. Varanasi has been his playground forever and he knows it like the back of his hand. Besides and on a more technical aspect, Dhiraj really helped me to overcome my shyness of taking pictures of all the beautiful people you meet in the street and he taught me how to use my camera manually which allowed me to take some creatives pictures !
