Dieses Marienwallfahrtszentrum erinnert an die Erscheinungen Unserer Lieben Frau vor den drei Hirtenkindern Lúcia, Francisco und Jacinta, die im Jahr 1917 stattfanden und 1930 anerkannt wurden. Der Ort war ein ländliches Anwesen namens Cova da Iria und gehörte Lúcias Eltern, die Paten waren es zum Heiligtum. Hier fanden fünf der sechs Erscheinungen statt. Das Heiligtum umfasst die Erscheinungskapelle, die Basilika Unserer Lieben Frau vom Rosenkranz, den Gebetsraum und die Basilika der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit. Ergänzt wird das Heiligtum durch die Exerzitienhäuser Unserer Lieben Frau der Schmerzen und Unserer Lieben Frau vom Berge Karmel sowie das Pastoralzentrum Paul VI. Es ist eines der bedeutendsten Marienheiligtümer der katholischen Kirche weltweit und eines der wichtigsten internationalen Reiseziele für religiösen Tourismus und empfängt jedes Jahr rund sechs Millionen Besucher. Es wurde von den Päpsten Paul VI. (1967), Johannes Paul II. (1982, 1991 und 2000), Benedikt XVI. (2010) und Franziskus (2017 und 2023) besucht.

Heute ist Nazaré auch für seine Riesenwellen bekannt, ja die größten Wellen der Welt gibt es hier in Portugal. Dank des Phänomens des Nazaré-Canyons, phänomenaler Wellen, die Nazaré auf der ganzen Welt berühmt gemacht haben, brach der amerikanische Surfer McNamara 2013 den Weltrekord, indem er eine Welle von etwa 30 Metern Höhe surfte, abhängig von der Jahreszeit, die wir sehen können sie mit unseren Augen.
Zeit, durch eines der schönsten Dörfer Portugals innerhalb der Mauern einer mittelalterlichen Burg zu fahren. Óbidos gehörte zum Verteidigungsfünfeck der fünf Burgen, diese stammten aus den Händen der Templer und dienten später als Hochzeitsgeschenk von D. Dinis an seine Frau D. Isabel. Die Stadt wurde Teil der Casa das Rainhas, die größtenteils den Portugiesen gehörte Königinnen in Portugal finanzierten sich hier und hinterließen auch dort große Vorteile. Hier werden wir auch einen der bekanntesten und beliebtesten Liköre entdecken, den Óbidos Ginja, los geht's!!!

We had a lovely day trip with Anastasia to the various places at a comfortable pace in a car. We were able to spend a good amount of time on our own at Fatima which was the main focus for the trip. We learned a lot from Anastasia about the various locations we visited as well as Lisbon and Portugal. Overall a great day outside of Lisbon to experience different parts of Portugal.

Amazing experience! Yesterday we did a private tour with the guide João visiting Fatima, Valinhos, Nazaré and Óbidos, and it has been, without doubt, the best private excursion we have had in all our trips around the world. João was simply spectacular: super punctual, friendly, fun, patient and with an impressive knowledge of the history, culture and curiosities of Portugal. He answered all our questions in detail, recommended the best sites and even shared stories from Guatemala and Nicaragua, so it was a lovely cultural exchange. Fantastic tour of several Portugal cities and their sites. João picked us up at our hotel early in the morning, and we spent the entire day checking out all the import sites from Fatima to Nazare and Obidos. João was a wealth of knowledge about everything throughout Portugal, as well as the religious and cultural sites. We were dropped back off at our hotel in the early evening. What a great tour!! There are no words to describe how much we loved this tour. Anastasiya is a Sweet Cover and an excellent guide. We went to Valinhos and Fatima, with a pass through beautiful Nazareth. The friendly Vila de Óbidos got to the final with the purchase of the mandatory ginjinha. But the highlight of the tour was the Battle Monastery, which is of unparalleled beauty. We were full of hearts and our phones were full of photos. Five stars.

Me and my family enjoyed this tour immensely. Anastasia was great! She is very knowledgeable of the history of all the places and also shared a lot of great stories that you wouldn’t normally read in the books. She was also very flexible and accommodating with the time you want to spend in each of the places. And she provided a lot of tips and suggestions on other places and products. She went above and beyond. We will definitely be booking more tours with the tour operator in the future. If you’re looking for a day tour that allows you to cover a lot of places without being rushed, I highly recommend this!
